Venus
Dickie Valentine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, Venus, oh, Venus
Venus, if you will
Please send a little girl for me to thrill
A girl who wants my kisses and my arms
A girl with all the charms of you

Venus, make her fair
A lovely girl with sunlight in her hair
And take the brightest stars up in the skies
And place them in her eyes for me

Venus, goddess of love that you are
Surely the things I ask
Can't be too great a task

Venus, if you do
I promise that I always will be true
I'll give her all the love I have to give
As long as we both shall live

Venus, goddess of love that you are
Surely the things I ask
Can't be too great a task

Venus, if you do
I promise that I always will be true
I'll give her all the love I have to give
As long as we both shall live

Hey, Venus, oh, Venus
Make my wish come true

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dickie Valentine's song "Venus" are a plea to the goddess of love, Venus, to send a girl who will fulfill the singer's romantic desires. The singer asks Venus to find a girl who would want his kisses and arms, someone with the same charm as hers. The singer attributes all these qualities to Venus herself and hopes that she can make it happen. The singer is not just asking for any girl but someone with sunlight in her hair and the brightest stars in her eyes.

The singer goes on to acknowledge that the tasks he asks of the goddess of love cannot be too great a task for her. After all, she is the goddess of love who commands power in such matters. He promises to be true to the girl that Venus sends his way and pledges to give her all the love he has to offer for as long as they both shall live.

The song "Venus" is a classic love song that speaks to the heart's desire for the perfect partner. It is timeless in its appeal and has been covered by many artists over the years. The song was originally written by Ed Marshall and was a hit for Frankie Avalon in 1959. Dickie Valentine's version of the song was released in the same year and was also a chart success.

A nice one, Robert. I like this British treatment,  the Angels chorus  and big orchestra. This was heard quite a lot around 1959-1960 via BBC Light and R.Luxembourg..
