Feerie
Die Form Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where I live slumber the fairies
That I would like so much to awaken
Under water they glide in silence
Between the fingers of glaucous seaweeds

Between the fingers of glaucous seaweeds
Which shelter larvae and relics
The moon expires mauve trails,
Sleeping lake, two way mirror,
In which I lose and erase myself
In which I lose and erase myself

Somewhere a dead child's maimed body
Gnawed to the bone by invisible jaws
Somewhere a headless woman
Emptied of her organs

Somewhere a newborn child half human
Half dog,
Devoured by his likes

The moon expires mauve trails,
Faceless, two way mirror,
In which I lose and erase myself
In which I lose and erase myself

Where I live slumber the fairies
That I would like so much to awaken

The black stones of my dreams
Move in silence

Overall Meaning

The opening stanza of Die Form's "Feerie," reveals a desire to awaken the fairies that are slumbering where they live. The singer navigates a dreamscape that is suspended in a dualistic space where the real and surreal are intertwined. The fairies are submerged beneath the water, hiding among the glaucous seaweed that protects them from view. The lyrical language creates an ethereal and fantastical atmosphere. The singer purposefully wants to awaken the fairies that sleep beneath. This act could be symbolic of the singer's desire to reconnect with their sense of wonder, magic, and innocence.

As the verses progress, the lyrics take on a darker tone. The second stanza describes a violent, disturbing scene, where a dead child's body has been consumed by invisible jaws, and a headless woman's insides have been emptied. The imagery is grotesque, presenting a world that is seemingly full of unimaginable horror, and that juxtaposes starkly with the first verse's dreamlike and soothing imagery. The third stanza, however, suggests that this violent and unsettling world exists only in the singer's imagination, where the conflation of reality and dreams feeds an entangled darkness.

Overall, "Feerie" presents as a haunting and powerful song about the human experience. The dreamlike quality and lyrical language draw in the listener, and the dark imagery and violence cause the listener to face the darker sides of a collective human psyche.
