Slow Day
Die Happy Lyrics

There's a red light on that just won't change
The pavement's full of cracks from all the sunshine
But now they're filling up 'cause the rain is falling down
I'm running round in circles
Trying to find my way
It's a slow day when you're net around
It's a slow day with no escape
It's a slow day without you
There's a jet-plane up there hanging in the sky
Just kind of resting his wings on that big white cloud
Minutes taking on but stretching out forever
Just like the rooftops out there - they all melt together
I'm running 'round in circles
Trying to find my way
24 long hours with nothing to do
24 long hours just hanging on, waiting for you
It's gonna be a slow day
The lyrics to Die Happy's "Slow Day" paint a picture of a frustratingly mundane day. The song begins with the singer looking out the window and seeing a traffic jam, a red light that won't change, and cracks in the pavement. The metaphor of the pavement filling up with rain paints a bleak picture of the world becoming even more cracked and imperfect. The singer feels lost and trapped, running in circles in an attempt to find their way.
The chorus reveals that the slow day is due to the absence of someone they care about. The lyrics highlight the feeling of time crawling by when you're waiting for someone you love. The singer longs for their company and feels that everything is bleak and dull without them. The reference to a jet-plane hanging in the sky further highlights the feeling of being stuck and unable to move forward.
Through these lyrics, Die Happy explores the feeling of being stuck in a moment and unable to move forward in life. The world is felt to be against the singer with a traffic jam, red light, and rain pouring down. But the central theme is the absence of someone important in the singer's life that is causing everything to be slow and meaningless.
