Wannabe
Die Happy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Big man with a license to deceive
You taste like a perfect chocolate cake
You are the only one
So godd and gracious a man can be
Born with the silver spoon in your mouth
Systematic breakdown
Television hero
A second of your life
Refrain:
I don't wanna be a wannabe like you
It feels fine just to be myself
I don't wanna be a wannabe like you
I'm sinner, that's good to me
A.S.S.H.O.L.E.
I don't wanna be a wannabe like you
A.S.S.H.O.L.E.
Read my mouth
Handshake in a mirror ball
Sounds in each corner of this room
You are a bunch of man I know
Must have many skeletons
In the closet with the golden key
Exaggeration is your second name
The lyrics to Die Happy's song "Wannabe" depict the singer's rejection of a certain individual who is portrayed as a big shot with the power to deceive, yet someone who is born privileged with a silver spoon in their mouth. The song describes this figure as a "television hero" who experiences a "systematic breakdown" and has many secrets in their closet. Despite their success and confidence, the singer prefers not to be like them, rejecting their lifestyle and persona. The chorus states that it's better to be a sinner than a "wannabe" like the individual described in the song, even spelling out "A.S.S.H.O.L.E." in capital letters to further portray their disdain. The song wraps up with the line "Read my mouth" encouraging listeners to pay attention and understand the message behind the lyrics.
