Alongside such bands like Blumfeld and Tocotronic, Die Sterne are one of the most important representatives of the so-called "Hamburger Schule" (Hamburg school). Rock, Soul and Funk are some of the major influences on the music of Die Sterne.

The lyrics to the song Il Silenzio by Die Sterne are a commentary on the fast-paced, modern world and the sense of detachment that comes with it.
