Chillin' on a back porch, oh yeah
Ain't no line around the corner, no security,
No velvet rope, no dress code, everybody's VIP,
You can wear your hat, dance in your bare feet,
No credit card, no roll of cash, just BYOB
Little hottie swingin' up in the swing
Them good ol' boys pickin' six string
Woah oh oh, leave your trouble at the door
No cover charge, get in for free
No last call, let's party on the back porch
(Chillin' on the back porch, oh yeah)
(Chillin' on the back porch, oh yeah)
Got a tin roof on the top just in case it rains
Got a kiddy pool off the deck for those hot as hell days
Got beer on ice, all day, all night
Now if that sounds like something you like, come on
Woah oh oh, chillin' on a back porch
Little hottie swingin' up in the swing
Them good ol' boys pickin' six string
Woah oh oh, leave your trouble at the door
No cover charge, get in for free
No last call, let's party on the back porch
Woah oh oh, chillin' on a back porch
Little hottie swingin' up in the swing
Them good ol' boys pickin' six string
Woah oh oh, leave your trouble at the door
No cover charge, get in for free
No last call, let's party on the back porch, chillin' on a back porch
Little hottie swingin' up in the swing
Them good ol' boys pickin' six string
Woah oh oh, leave your trouble at the door
No cover charge, get in for free
No last call, so let's party on a back porch
(Chillin' on a back porch, ah yeah)
On a back porch
(Chillin' on a back porch, ah yeah)
Little hottie swingin' up in the swing
Them good ol' boys pickin' five string
No cover charge, get in for free
No last call, so let's party on a back porch
Chillin' on a back porch, oh yeah
Chillin' on a back porch, oh yeah
"Back Porch" by Dierks Bentley is a feel-good party song that lays out a scene of a relaxed and enjoyable environment for the audience. The song starts by outlining the comfortable and accessible nature of the party. There are no long lines or exclusivity, no need for flash or cash, and everyone is considered a VIP. The setting for the party is a back porch where people can wear their hats or dance in bare feet. The music is live, acoustic and features the classic Southern instruments like the six-string guitar, which is central to country music. The scene is so laidback that even little hotties can swing in swings in front of the party-goers.
The song seems to be a celebration of the good times that can be had in a low-key and accessible setting as opposed to a high-end nightclub, which may exert pressure on patrons to follow dress codes, afraid to show their true colors, and be judged or rejected if they do not fit in. Therefore, the back porch represents an invitation to party where people are welcomed as they are, let loose and have a good time, free of the pressures that come with the grand social scene.
