Dikta Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My love, my life
It's time to draw the straw
It doesn't matter what I get
They're long gone
See your teeth spent on good things
That kill your frenzy
I'll be here
And you'll find me swimming in my blood
Still searching
I'll be dead if you need me to
I'll be dead
It's time for another reel
No sound, no tears
Let's stop and think this through
I am swimming in circles here
Around you
And I run and I run and I run
Just to find any trace
And I run and I run and I run
It's the thrill of the chase
In the song Visitor by Icelandic band Dikta, the singer seems to be reflecting on a complicated relationship. The opening lines - "On time for another meal, my love, my life, it's time to draw the straw" - suggest a sense of predictability in the relationship, as if they're going through the motions. However, the line "it doesn't matter what I get, they're long gone" hints at a sense of disappointment or resignation - no matter what they do, they can't recapture what they once had.
The next few lines are somewhat cryptic, but seem to be about substance abuse: "See your teeth spent on good things that kill your frenzy". The singer is aware that their partner is destroying themselves, but is still willing to be there for them: "I'll be here if you want me to, I'll be here. And you'll find me swimming in my blood, still searching. I'll be dead if you need me to, I'll be dead." This suggests that the singer is willing to do whatever it takes to be there for their partner, even if it means sacrificing their own wellbeing.
The chorus of the song is more upbeat, but still somewhat ominous: "It's time for another reel, no sound, no tears. Let's stop and think this through, I am swimming in circles here, around you." The repetition of "I run and I run and I run" suggests that the singer is constantly chasing after their partner, but never quite catching up. The final line - "it's the thrill of the chase" - seems to imply that, despite everything, the singer is still invested in the relationship and finds some sort of excitement in the pursuit.
Overall, Visitor is a complex and emotionally-charged exploration of a troubled relationship, with cryptic lyrics that hint at the underlying issues without spelling them out.
