DJ Babu (from the DJ crew Beat Junkies), Evidence, and Rakaa joined together in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA and released Third Degree and Work the Angles, which were quickly established as favorites in the underground scene and among rap critics. They eventually signed to Capitol and in 2000 released The Platform, to more critical acclaim. Their sophomore set Expansion Team was released in 2001, led by the Alchemist-produced single Worst Comes To Worst, which sampled from Mobb Deep's Survival Of The Fittest. Their third album, Neighborhood Watch, was released in 2004 and debuted at #55 on USA's Billboard 200 Albums Chart. In addition to the Kanye West-produced single, This Way, it also featured the single Who's Who?, which was also included as a track on the Need for Speed: Underground and SSX 3 soundtracks, and peaked at #35 on the UK Singles Chart.
In 2006, they returned with the single Back Again, produced by The Alchemist. The trio's fourth album, 20/20, debuted on February 21, 2006.
In 2007 they released The Release Party. This package included a feature-length documentary on DVD as well as EP featuring new songs and remixes. The film, released through Decon, is a celebration of the release from their contract with Capital.
Directors of Photography is the fifth studio album by the American hip hop group. The album was released on August 12, 2014, by Rhymesayers Entertainment.
Back Again
Dilated Peoples Lyrics

{*Al-Al-Al-Al-Al, Al, Al, Alchemist*}
It's a new day (A-L-see, Expansion Team business)
Ohhhhh! Ohhhhh! (Let's do it)
[Chorus:]
"Back again!" (Who is it?)
{*scratches: "Dilated" - "People make some noise!"*}
[Ev] Set to pack 'em in
[Ev] Ladies and gentlemen front, left, right, and back again
"Back again!" (Uh-huh, who is it?) {*B-Real: "Dilated!"*}
{*scratches: "Dilated.. Dilated Peoples!"*}
"In the house again!"
[Ev] It's the People the People the People
[Ev] People the People the People
Yeah, back again! For the very fourth time
Don't worry if I write checks, I write rhymes
{*DJ Babu turntable backspin*}
(Yeah yeah! Bring that back to the top man!)
Yeah you like that right? I need to hear that from the top
Yo Babs... bring that back!
{*scratched: "Rewind, I spit 'em again"*}
Yeah, back again! For the very fourth time
Don't worry if I write checks, I write rhymes
It's a new year, okay, got shit to confess
Like I ain't smoke weed no more (what?) but ain't smokin no less (ha!)
"Back again," yeah, reversin' any curses
Back to jumpin' in crowds, spillin' drinks on chicks purses
"In the house again," it's Dilated Peoples
Back again-back again-back, back again-back again-back
"Back again," the crew never left, but came back
(Amazing!) Like tomorrow on these yesterday cats
"In the house again," learned to stay vested and strapped
Stay awake and out of the federal state traps
(Yo we back again!) Kinda like Bush and Blair
Some were scared, some would just wish they cared
(Uh-ohh!) "In the house again," never too late to prepare
Cause many things you fear have been in place for years
[Chorus:]
"Back again," with more titles, rings and plaques
Belts trophies and banners, and things like that
LIKE THAT!
{*DJ Babu turntable backspin*}
(Like that! Ohh, definitely like that!)
(A-L-see, Dilated Peoples)
(Aiyyo Rak' I don't think they understand man)
(Yo bring that back!) {*scratch: "Rewind, I spit 'em again"*}
"Back again," with more titles, rings and plaques
Belts trophies and banners, and things like that (like that)
For the passion and stacks of this cash
We play through pain, mostly come home to switch bags
"Back again," to get my squad back on track
Staples Center parades, I'm talkin' back to back
"In the house again," it's Dilated
And we're back again-back again-back, back again-back again-back
"Back again," yeah they stuck cause shit's different
And rain was on the way because the weatherman predict it
"In the house again," I ain't gettin' wet
Kick a hole in the speaker pull the plug; still my People showin love
Think different, outside the box
Don't want a lot of a little, we want a little of a lot
In this world, Evidence, all I got's my word
Spin at thirty-three and a third, to make the DJ spin it
The song "Back Again" by Dilated Peoples is an empowering anthem that celebrates the group's return to music after a hiatus. The opening lines signify that the group, made up of members Evidence, Rakaa, and DJ Babu, is back with force, announcing the People's arrival. The chorus "Back Again" repeats throughout the song, offering an infectious and ear-worm worthy hook that further emphasizes the group's new status.
The verses of the song reveal that Dilated Peoples has returned more focused and driven than before. They are focused on their music and their ambition to continue pushing forward. The lyrics speak to their success and continue to work for greater fame and recognition while not worrying about financial stability because hip hop is what they do best. Rakaa's line "Don't worry if I write checks, I write rhymes" exemplifies this belief.
