I'm sorry
Dilba Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I painted a picture of you
Your soul was red, and your mind was blue
Destiny laid a light on my creation

This dream I had made
A slave of my passion
Reality was always too far away
And we were happy
Until it came too close one day

And sudden I faced
The truth of my dream
My love had only been a picture, a scene
I suppose I needed too believe
Didn't want too see
You had never been close to me

I'm sorry, this illusion
Has caused you a lot of pain
And I have no solution
I'll try to never be back again
I'm sorry

Yes I painted a picture of youmy dream was a lie
And the lie became truth
Reality held it's breath too long
It's disgusting what dreams can do to you

And i'm sorry, this illusion
Has caused you a lot of pain
And I have no solution
I''ll try to never be back again

I'm sorry, this illusion
Has caused you a lot of pain
And I have no solution
I'll try to never be back again
I'm sorry
I'm sorry

I'm sorry
I'm sorry

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dilba's song "I'm Sorry" depict a painful realization that someone's love for another person was based on a false perception. The first verse describes how the singer painted a picture of the person they loved, with their soul being red and their mind being blue. This represents how the singer projected their own expectations and desires onto the other person, creating a fantasy version of them in their own mind. The mention of destiny shining a light on the singer's creation suggests that fate played a role in their delusion.

In the second verse, the singer confronts the truth that their love was never based on reality. They admit that they only believed in this illusion because they didn't want to see that the other person had never been close to them. The chorus repeats the phrase "I'm sorry" several times, emphasizing the regret and guilt that the singer feels for causing pain to the other person. They acknowledge that they don't have a solution to fix the situation and promise to not come back.

Overall, the song shows the destructive power of creating illusions and how it can cause harm to others. It is a poignant reminder to be honest with ourselves and to not project our own desires onto other people.

I've only ever heard Dilba's version until today when I found "I'm Sorry" played by Evergrey. I found Dilba's though, at a marjorly tumultuous time. Its no less than still, but Dilba's has a giant place in my heart. Her music has been a saving grace.

14 years ago I heard this song when I was looking for a new job in Gothenburg. At that place I met a girl that became my friend. We went to a concert together - it was Dilba of course ^^ Then I had to leave Sweden. Came back 3 years ago and guess what. This year I met the girl from my first job. We talked about how we went to this Concert with Dilba ... you want a happy ending ..? Well. We live together today :p
