Last Communion
Dillinger Four Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Weighted all the evidence and passed it on
Turned around and left it sight unseen
There was no chance, the chains held way too strong
To free the restrictions of your own beliefs

Watch the old ones
Fixed in their convictions
Steadfast in their stories
Enraptured by their glory

And at the end that's all you've got
Don't know what you are, just what you're not
Until the story's over

You are so delicate but bulletproof
A little fiction goes a long, long way
You are the first, the last, and the walking truth
The black and white when everything is gray

Watch the old ones
Fixed in their convictions
Steadfast in their stories
Enraptured by their glory

And at the end that's all you've got
Don't know what you are, just what you're not
Until the story's over

Now we're shouting but the words aren't taking hold
We're living by the rules we're fucking told
And we are just a bark without a bite
And we have chosen darkness to light

Wait just a second, it's your last chance to accept it
You thought you changed the program, but it's just like you left it
You stood against each other and the best got the best of you
You had your time and you let it die

The joke's always been on you
You let it die, you let it
The joke's always been on you
You let it die, you let it

The joke's always been on you
You let it die, you let it

The joke's always been on you
You let it die, you let it

Overall Meaning

The song "Last Communion" by Dillinger Four is a deep reflection on the struggles of trying to break free from the chains of one's own beliefs. The lyrics suggest that one can be held back by their own convictions, unable to see beyond them, and unable to change them. The first verse describes a situation in which someone has collected evidence, but has chosen to ignore it because it does not fit their beliefs. The chains referred to here represent the person's inability to break free from their own beliefs, even though they may be holding them back.

The chorus encourages listeners to observe the old ones who are fixed in their convictions, and see how they live their lives. Despite the steadfastness in their stories and being enraptured by their glory, they may ultimately only have those stories, and nothing more. The verses speak to the listener, encouraging them to be strong in their convictions, even if it might be challenging. However, it also suggests that one must be open to change, as it may take them down a different path.

The song speaks to the irony that sometimes the most delicate, seemingly fragile things can be the most resolute and "bulletproof". The second verse talks about walking the line between black and white, trying to create clarity amidst the grayness of life. The bridge of the song is the most powerful, as it speaks to the idea that we are living life by rules that we are told, rather than by our own beliefs, and the need to stand up for ourselves.

Overall, "Last Communion" is a song that encourages listeners to question their beliefs and convictions, to let go of what may be holding them back, and to be willing to change direction. It speaks to the importance of being true to oneself, and not living life by the rules set by others.

Baron Nick Von Sick !

Shame the label hasn't put out anything as relevant since this album really

Baron Nick Von Sick !

Though if I think about it for a long time, I suppose Digger (band name is awful but the music is good) Nobodys (questionable lyrics at times) and Atom & His Package would be the only other things on the label worthwhile. Can't say as much for say the Queers.in retrospect mind you, D4 is still tops

Realityfails

Felt like checking out how youtube treats D4 and its a shame.
