If you are here, read:
Yes the orientation of the switch is correct, but there might be a third screw for the red wire. (The switch in the video he taped off the other red wire. The taped off red wire is the one he should use) Mine had a copper screw for the black wire and two brass for the red wire.
Brass --> ol---l
Copper-> ol__lo <--brass
When I put the red wire above the black wire, as the old switch was, it was reversed like this (up=off/down=on).
I put the red wire on the other side from the black wire and the switch worked properly (on=up/off=down).
Try that instead of living with a counter intuitive swtich!

thanks for the video, I was wondering if my dimmer was wired incorrectly, but I see it is not. I wonder why they (switch manufacturers )decided to go with that type of counter intuitive design

@Mitch did what this guy said and it worked. Thanks!!

Mitch

@Poolarity - Life Hacks this is wrong. I had the same problem. But I tried connecting to the other pole, the one you tapped off, and it worked properly.
It is not the industry standard as you say

Mitch

If you have the wire connected across the switch rather than along one side, it should work properly. It isn't wired correctly, that is why it is not working correctly

Poolarity - Life Hacks

I was wondering the same, but apparently its the standard, all the "flat" style outlets both normal and smart outlets are all the same orientation.

Can the dimmer be disabled?

Trevor

I’ve wired mine back and forth 3 time thinking I’m crazy over here

Poolarity - Life Hacks

Yep, I know that feeling.
