To pick up the blind
To look like the healer
To put them in line
And pure's our vision
It's plain black and white
The heathen will see when
We shed them the light
Bless
They mean no wrong
Bless them
They mean no harm
We go to those places
That they've not got quite right
Point where the mistake is
Put our sun in their sky
Bless
They mean no wrong
Bless them
They mean no harm
And let them hope that tommorrow
Can live up to the hype
Let them hope all they like
Bless
They mean no wrong
Bless them
They mean no harm
Bless
The lyrics of the song Bless by Dimmer are about how religious and cultural groups often believe that they have the answers to the world's problems and so they go out and try to "fix" the people they consider broken. The song begins by talking about how these people see themselves as doing a favor by picking up the blind and putting them in line, essentially saying that they are trying to help the misguided. The second verse speaks more broadly about these groups going to places that are not in line with their beliefs and showing them where they have made mistakes, almost as if they are trying to save them from themselves.
The chorus of the song is the repeated word "bless" and highlights the fact that those who are trying to help others believe that what they are doing is the right thing. However, in the context of the song, it is more ironic than genuine, as the ultimate message seems to be that these groups mean well, even if they do not truly know what is best for others. The last line of each chorus repeats that "they mean no wrong," emphasizing that these groups are not malicious, but perhaps misguided. The final stanza speaks of hope, that those who are being "fixed" will find a better tomorrow, one that lives up to all the hype of the fixer.
Overall, the song seems to be warning against those who think that they have all the answers and go out to try and fix those they deem in need of guidance. The lyrics portray the idea that while they may mean well, their efforts to help may not always have the best results.
