@Guillaume Avon It was a reference to a press conference in Cannes when a reporter tried to imply that QT was a misogynist without directly saying it but subtly implying it in her question. He just replied, "I reject your hypothesis".
I don't understand what is the point of observing that Tarantino didn't say his name, but it seems that you are implying some wrongdoing to Tarantino so: "I reject your hypothesis".

Its amazing that Tarantino praised Boon Joon-ho and he went on to win the oscars for best director and movie for Parasite beating out Tarantino himself

I don't see anything special about Memories of murder. Actually when I used to watch all of these movies about serial killers this one was one of the worst. It was so bad at many levels and it lacked any autheticity and tension.

I'm Korean and I'm struck on how much love Bong has been getting! One slight grudge I have now is that the other Korean Film Maestro Park Chan Wook isnt getting the same amount of love even though he is practically Bong's mentor. His gems include the all famous Old Boy, JSA (As mentioned in the list), and the Handmaiden. JSA in particular had such a powerful impact on me when i watched it for the first time when i was 15. Anyway, lots of good movies to see in Asian cinema.

Couldn’t agree more with his talk on The Matrix, I love how the first one is a self contained film that wraps up nicely and makes you think a lot. But then came the sequels, which thoroughly explains everything and leaves nothing to the imagination, and adds to the lore making it come off more bloated than creative.

I didn’t fully appreciate “Unbreakable” until I had a few days to think about it, to reflect on it. Then it hit me. A terrific film, the ultimate “superhero coming to terms with his powers and understanding his place in the world” story, properly paced, M. Night’s best and, yes, Bruce’s finest performance. Some people don’t appreciate the kind of performance Bruce can bring, and he doesn’t always bring it. But when the story and character mesh just so with Bruce’s style… it’s magic. He’s not just an action star. M. Night gets the best out of Bruce on the low-key celluloid endeavors.

I'm so glad The Host made this list. I watched it randomly without ever hearing of it or the director at that time (Bong Joon Ho - director of Parasite), I was just bored and gave it a watch. Amazing monster flick with a perfect cast. Do not skip on this one it is brilliant.

I really appreciate how Tarantino has a fondness for Korean movies. I'm sure there's other countries who can make films about true human nature in a visceral, gut-wrenching and revolting way but there's something about Korean films that can really make you think and feel like shit after the ending, as most Korean masterpieces never have a feel-good and wholesome conclusion.

It's a shame that it has largely been forgotten now, but Speed was one wildly popular film when it was released. I desperately wanted to see it after hearing about it so much on TV and in person, and also after having watched Jurassic Park just a year before in theatres and subsequently developing a taste for action movies, but I was only nine at the time and wasn't allowed due to the R rating. However, I did get to "hear" it a couple of times not long after it was released on video when I was in one room and the adults were watching it in the next room over. Man, it sounded pretty intense.

@osh_ho q yeah. but it's still pretty sad though. despite putting several influential movies over the last 30 years, the guy still hasn't won at least one best director. he was so close to win it, in 2010, but Kathryn Bigelow won best director that year, which was also fair in in my opinion. but Hurt Locker definitely didn't deserved to win best picture, there were more deserving movies that year

@James Bond 007 I would have to watch it again to figure out why i didnt like it so much as his other movies. But i think the theme of the movie didnt help my perception of it. It wasnt like i watch all theses movies multiple times and analysed it, coming to this conclusion. Its just that i loved the final part of Mother, and i loved the pace, the characters and how everything tied together to the broader message in Parasite. The decision of putting Memories of a Murder in front of The Host was definitely a very subjective one. I think, in the end, i just liked the thematic and the broader message of Memories of a Murder more than the ones in The Host. But i am willing to change my opinion, if i am given good arguments.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear him mention Unbreakable. It happens to be my favorite Shyamalan film, and it's great that a high-profile director considers it to be an excellent cinematic work, especially since most people tend to mention either The Sixth Sense or Signs as Shyamalan's best films.

Truth told, I though Sixth Sense and Signs were homogonized studio films for mass market consumption. They are really not good, at all. For those not familiar, a studio film is one that will make a ton of money, so that the studio will also produce the Director's "real" work, the films that are a little out of the ordinary. Now, the Village blew me away when I first saw it. That film is brilliant. It's handed to you on a plate that it's an isolated community, but then the director makes you start doubting that. Maybe it IS supernatural? It's the opposite of what a mainstream movie would do. It challenges you, it makes you think, trying to pull all the little clues together, until that final satisfying "OK, it was a sham." Signs? Hey, there's an Alien. Here's the Alien. Sixth Sense. Something's not right. Oh, it's the kid. Not exactly interesting plots.

Battle Royale is my favourite film and i'm a big fan of Tarantino's movies so i'm thrilled that he loves it as well. Although I suppose it's obvious having cast Chiaki Kuriyama for Kill Bill, it's just a shame he didn't manage to get his wish and also get Ko Shibasaki for it!

The same director, after winning the best director trophy, acknowledged the other nominee Quentin with his whole-heart in the stage of Oscars, after a decade.

Battle Royale is disturbing, complex, very bloody, and truly a great film. I'm suprised that he didn't mention a Sion Sono film, like Why Don't You Play In Hell or Love Exposure. My daughter is as big a film buff as QT, and she was the one who recommended all these films, as she's very into Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cinema. I noticed that he didn't mention Old Boy either, the original, not the crap US remake.
That being said, if there ever was going to be a US remake of Battle Royale, QT is the only director who could do it justice.

It's such a damn travesty that the Matrix sequels ruined the original to a large extent for Tarantino as I think all 3 movies are great and groundbreaking pieces of art and philosophy.

I know I'm in the minority but I'll never get the hate for Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions. They're imaginative films with great action and even an amazing sense of superhero-level fights before Superhero movies got to that level! not to mention good soundtracks and memorable performances.

Sure, the original Matrix is still the best but I'll always enjoy the sequels too.

I love how his favorite movies aren't the go to movies when people are asked: what is your favorite film.... Unbreakable was such a singular, unique experience, no movie is like it, it is the only thing of it's type, to call it a deconstruction would really diminish the movie, it is something else.

One of my favourite movies is Chungking express by Wong Kar-wai and this movie became famous in the West because of Quentin Tarantino who watched it during some film festival, liked the movie and decided to promote it

still 55% genius, 45% weirdo. his choice of favorite movies speaks for itself. he might even eat a stick of butter every morning with milk and cheese. i have no idea what's wrong with this guy. one thing's for sure, he's a life-long great film maker, but he isn't the best director anymore. there are actually better and smarter filmmakers now than he, just like how bill gates and warren buffet aren't the richest men in the world anymore. just my point. i'm still this guy's fan, though. i do think he is quite strange. of course, he is a genius.

I totally agree about the Matrix. Sometimes I actually get angry thinking about any of the films after the first one and you're right, they 100 percent made the first movie worse by making more but it's still good. I also wasn't expecting Speed but after hearing about seeing it in the theater for the first time, I think that's a good choice. Dennis Hopper is on fire and that movie doesn't let up at all. The Audition?! Interesting.

Some don't seem to understand the difference between "favorite" and "best".

For example... I think Citizen Kane is one of the best movies ever made, but, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is one of my all-time favorites. If both movies were playing on different cable networks at the same time, I'd be watching Ray Harryhausen work his magic!
