It's Too Late
Dina Carroll Lyrics

There's somethin' wrong here, there can be no denyin'.
One of us is changin', or maybe we've just stopped tryin'.
And it's too late, baby now, it's too late,
Though we really did try to make it.
Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide,
And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no.
It used to be so easy, livin' here with you.
You were light and breezy, an' I knew just what to do.
Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool.
And it's too late, baby now, it's too late,
Though we really did try to make it.
Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide,
And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no.
There'll be good times again for me and you,
But we just can't stay together; don't you feel it too?
Still I'm glad for what we had and how I once loved you.
And it's too late, baby now, it's too late,
Though we really did try to make it. (we can't make it)
Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide,
And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no, no, no, no, no.
It's too late baby, it's too late now darling
It's too late.
The song "It's Too Late" by Dina Carroll is about the end of a relationship that cannot be fixed despite attempts to salvage it. The singer has stayed in bed all morning, mulling over the issues in the relationship that cannot be ignored. There is a feeling that one of them has changed or that they have stopped trying to make things work. The chorus "It's too late baby now, it's too late, though we really did try to make it. Something inside has died and I can't hide and I just can't fake it, oh no no" highlights the sadness and finality of the situation. They have tried to make it work but ultimately something inside has died and it's too late to fix it.
The second verse of the song recalls how easy things used to be when they were together. The singer expresses how they used to know just what to do and how quickly things have changed. The chorus is repeated, emphasizing how their relationship has changed and how it's too late to make things right. The final verse suggests that although their relationship is over and they can't stay together, there will be good times again for both of them. The song ends with a repeated chorus, once again emphasizing the finality of the situation.

This song was released in 1991, twenty years after the original by Carole King. Classic song that was given a wonderful modern touch when Quartz and Dina Carrol remade it. Love this song. Still gives me goosebumps!

I remember the song from 1991, a great reworking of Carole King's classic.
Beautiful vocals from Dina Carroll, she truly has a wonderful silky voice, shame we haven't heard anything from her for such a long time.
