Hayek started her solo career in 1999, after being discovered by Lebanese composer George Marderosian. She studied music at Kaslik University, before taking private courses for 3 years with Fouad Houad and two years with Rafik Houbaika, both Lebanese musicians. Her debut album, Sehr el Gharam - Magic Of Love, was released in 2003 under the Music Master International label, and included the single by the same name which was backed by Egyptian music channel Melody TV.
Hayek's commercial breakthrough came when she signed a contract with the Saudi record label Rotana. Her second album, titled Katabtellak, was released in 2005. It was a commercial success, and included the hit singles, Katabtellak, Helwi Mennak, and Darb El Hawa,.
Dina Hayek's third album, Ta'a La Albi, was released in 2006. It included the single by the same name. The album's commercial success paled in comparison with its predecessor, despite its first-rate quality.
Hayek admitted that some Rotana artists, such as Elissa, get more attention from the record executives than the rest. She was also disappointed with the promotional efforts made for Ta'a La Albi, which partly led to low sales figures in both Egypt and the Gulf region. She voiced her disappointment with Rotana for claiming that they were not able to secure her a performance at the 2007 Hala Febrayer Festival in Kuwait, despite the fact the overwhelming majority of the performers were signed with them. In mid-2007 she terminated her contract with Rotana. She is currently working on new material with the support from Hab Production. So far she has released three singles, including "Jarreb El Ghira" and "Bhebbak Ma Bensa Gharamak".
An active singer, Hayek has given a number concerts and festivals in Lebanon, Egypt and the Gulf region, partly thanks to her brother, who is her manager. Her voice got the attention of the LegendarySyrian singer, George Wassouf with whom she performed in many concerts. She has also worked with Melhem Barakat in a few concerts.

يا خبرني وينك، يا غايب من سنين

كل الدني عندي قربك حرام
من غيرك عمري ما أنام حرام

The song "Haram" by Dina Hayek is a plea from the singer to her lover to reveal what's been on his mind, as she feels neglected and forgotten by him. The lyrics start with the singer asking her lover to either give her his heart, or be content with staying in hers. She then asks him to tell her what's been occupying his thoughts, what has been causing him to be distant, and where he's been all this time. The chorus of the song mainly emphasizes how it is forbidden for her lover to separate from her, as she cannot bear the pain of being away from him. In the end, the singer calls out for her lover to come back to her, as she cannot live without him.
The song is primarily about the pain and desperation that one feels when a lover leaves, with the title "Haram" meaning "Forbidden" in Arabic. The song tackles the theme of love, but it also touches on the societal stigma in Arab culture surrounding the abandonment of loved ones, carrying a deeper meaning than just the typical love songs. Dina Hayek's passionate delivery, as well as the slow, melancholic melody, help to emphasize the depth of the singer's emotions, making the song a popular hit in the Arab world.
