Broderick came up through Phoenix's D.I.Y. scene in the early 2010s, writing thoughtful, breezy bedroom pop songs whose lo-fi feel often belied their subtle sophistication. A multi-instrumentalist, they alternately played all the parts themself or maintained a fluid lineup of friends and collaborators to join them on their recordings, which they released under the alias Diners. Amid a scattering of smaller releases, Diners issued the full-length albums Throw Me a Ten and Always Room in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
In 2016, Broderick enjoyed somewhat of a breakthrough, releasing Diners' third album, three, on California indie Asian Man Records. A lusher and more complex release, it contained the single "Fifteen on a Skateboard," which racked up more than a million streams and significantly expanded their audience. An EP, A Soft Day, appeared early the next year, followed by more heavy touring. Returning in early 2020, this time on Lauren Records, Broderick's fourth Diners album, Leisure World, was a tonally eclectic set with an easygoing feel. Produced by Broderick and Matty Terrones, the like-minded Four Wheels and the Truth followed in 2022 and included contributions from, among others, Chris Farren and Shinobu's Bob Vielma.
Following a relocation to Los Angeles, and with a new sense of freedom inspired by coming out as transgender, Broderick ramped up the energy, volume, and crunchy guitar tones without sacrificing any tunefulness or amiability on their next album, 2023's DOMINO. Produced by Mo Troper, it marked Diners' debut for Bar/None Records.

Thinking Of You
Diners Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't tell me that the night is almost over
And still I think of you
As though your heads still rested on my shoulder
Taking my time
Dreaming away
I told them it's cool
Thinking of you
Thinking while the thinking's come and go
At home
Another melody I've fallen into
Tired eyes convince me to get ready
Body is tired
Mind is awake
Im brushing my teeth
And looking in the mirror
Moments go by
I've decided that i'm okay looking strange
Taking my time
Dreaming away
They ask me whats wrong
I told them not much
I'm just thinking of you
Thinking while the thinking's come and go
I'm just thinking of you
Thinking while the thinking's come and go.
The lyrics to Diners' "Thinking of You" speaks to the feeling of missing someone deeply and being unable to shake that feeling, even when one is supposed to be moving on. The first verse sets the scene of a night coming to an end, but the singer is still thinking of the person they miss. The imagery of their head resting on the singer's shoulder emphasizes the emotional weight of the missed connection. The second verse hints at a routine that the singer has adopted to cope with their feeling of loss, but it is clear that they are still not over it. They are tired physically, but their mind is alert and consumed by thoughts of the person they miss.
The chorus brings everything together, noting that the singer is constantly thinking about this person, no matter where they are or what they are doing. The line "Thinking while the thinking's come and go" perhaps suggests that the singer feels like they are trapped in this loop of missing this person - they are always thinking about them, but the thoughts themselves are fleeting and never quite resolved.
Overall, the song's bittersweet sentiment coupled with its lo-fi indie sound creates an emotional soundscape that is relatable to anyone who has experienced a deep sense of longing.
