1. Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

You might see someone you don't know
Maybe it's just what you need
Letting the river in you flow
You can sail away to the sun
And let it burn you while you can
Or walk a long bloody road
You'll feel it
You'll feel it
You'll feel the rush of it all
Flying away int the clouds
You know you're loosing your control
And finding you way in the dark
Like some poor forgotten soul
You'll feel it
You'll see it
You'll feel the rush of the city lights
You'll feel it
I see it in your eyes, you're
Caught in the middle
Just like the way you've always been
Caught in the middle
Helpless again
Looking inside of yourself
You might see someone you don't know
Maybe it's just what you need
Letting the river I know that's in you flow
You can feel it
You can see it
You know the rush of thunder, yeah
You'll feel it
I see it in your eyes, you're
Caught in the middle
Just like the way you've always been
Caught in the middle
Helpless again
Like the rush of a thunder
That brings you under
There's some kind of spark
You're caught right there in the middle
You're caught in the middle
Caught in the middle again
All night long yeah hmm hmm hmm
You break it off in the middle
The lyrics of Dio's song "Caught in the Middle" depict a sense of being lost and hopeless. The chorus "Caught in the middle, just like the way you've always been, helpless again" emphasizes this feeling of being stuck and unable to move forward. The verses encourage the listener to search deep within themselves, possibly finding a part of themselves they didn't know existed.
The line "Letting the river in you flow" suggests the idea of letting go and allowing oneself to be taken on a journey. It is also interesting to note the use of sailing and walking metaphors throughout the song, emphasizing the different paths one can take.
The lyrics also paint the picture of being able to see and feel the rush and excitement of life, but being unable to fully embrace it. The line "finding your way in the dark, like some poor forgotten soul" creates a sense of loneliness and detachment from the world.
Overall, the song seems to be encouraging the listener to dig deep and find their own path, but also recognizing the difficulties and struggles that come with that journey.

Listening to this as a 48 year old brings back feelings and the emotions of the 12-15 year old who would put this record on . Alone in my room so angry at dad who was never home due to his drinking. Angry at my mom for not giving me the attention and emotional support. Angry at my friends for everything they had and i didn’t. Angry at my teachers for not understanding that this freckle faced kid needs someone , anyone.
While other friends listened to glam rock I had Dio. He spoke to me, not necessarily with lyrics but his passion. Back then we didn’t have riddlen or therapy. I had baseball and Dio. I feel sorry for kids today. Everything is plastic and fake now.
Remember you all do like me , laying in your bed looking up at the ceiling listening to this album first to last . Sometimes excited , other times angry or afraid and often times crying wondering how I will ever be happy. Where ever we were Dio spoke to us - me - when others walked over me or kicked me aside like some poor forgotten soul.
He died and I didn’t think anything of it as I am 18 years sober, married and trying my best to still keep that young boy hidden away with pains.. This song in particular brings me back and makes look inside myself, it’s just what I need. To tell that young scared boy you will be ok and loved.
Thanks Ronnie, I am sorry I never got to see you Live. You helped me and many young boys survive . I pray for your soul and I ask you to pray for me and protection from those demons who torment me every day.
Like the rush of the thunder that pulls you under…

Just recently getting into Dio. What a voice, and a stage presence. Dude was naturally gifted, and was so insightful and eloquent in interviews. Too bad I’ll never get to see him live!
@kevinr278
His voice was consistently good. When it came to his solo band, the albums had varied success. DIO also did another Black Sabbath record but had fallen out of favor with my generation when I was a teen in early 90's. Very few of my friends liked Dio. Most did not during those days.
Just about anything 80's related was shunned in a way. It was all about Biohazard, Sepultura, Clutch, and stuff like that. The tuff look
@j_freed
It's cool when newer fans get into the Classic sound, it's kind of Metal but has a lot of 70s and 80s melodic rock elements...
