1. Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio. Dio left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice. The name Dio was chosen because it made sense from a commercial standpoint, as the name was already well known at that time. The band released ten studio albums and had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dio himself being the only constant member. Guitarists included Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Doug Aldrich, Warren DeMartini, Tracy G, Jake E. Lee and Rowan Robertson. The band dissolved in 2010 when Ronnie James Dio died of stomach cancer at the age of 67. Dio has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Turn out the lights, you'll see them anyway
Sail into never, they'll follow wherever you can go
And take you to the places you don't know, no, no
It's the call of the city
The way that black's pretty to the purest heart
It's places of pleasure
And then there goes the soul of you and I
Oh do you ever think about the way I caught the rainbow
I'll be there where fire makes you dance
I'm gonna give you the look that opens up the skies
I've got evil eyes, evil eyes, evil eyes
Yes, evil eyes oh those eyes
Hide in the night
Turn out the light, they'll see you anyway
Sail into never, they'll follow wherever you can go
Evil eyes
Protect your lies, evil eyes
You're a thin disguise for what you are, evil eyes
Sail into never
They'll follow forever
'Cause they're evil eyes
Evil, evil, evil, evil, evil, evil, evil eyes
In Dio's song "Evil Eyes," the lyrics tell a story of temptation and danger lurking in the shadows. The first verse suggests that there are things that hide in the darkness, regardless of whether or not you turn out the lights. It's a call to adventure, urging the listener to sail into the unknown, where they will be followed by these mysterious beings. The second verse provides more detail, describing the allure of the city and the pleasure it promises. The lyrics also suggest that once you're lured in, there's no turning back - "there goes the soul of you and I."
The chorus is where the song's title comes into play. According to the lyrics, the singer has "evil eyes" that can see through the thin disguise that others put up. He warns the listener to "protect your lies," which suggests that those with "evil eyes" have the ability to see through deceit, and that they're always watching, waiting. The song's final lines - "Sail into never, they'll follow forever / 'Cause they're evil eyes" - leave a haunting impression, suggesting that no matter where you go or what you do, there will always be a sense of danger lurking.
Overall, "Evil Eyes" is a cautionary tale, warning listeners of the dangers that exist in the world. Whether these dangers are real or metaphorical is up to interpretation, but the song's message remains clear: be careful, and watch out for those with "evil eyes."
