THIS IS YOUR LIFE
Dio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who cares what came before
We were only starlight
One day, then nevermore
Because we're whispers in the wind

Once upon a time
The world was never blind
Like we are

Right now it seems
You're only dreams and shadows
If wishes could be eagles how you'd fly

This is your life
This is your time
What if the flame won't last forever
This is your here
This is your now
Let it be magical

Who cares what came before
We're only starlight

Once upon the time
All the world was blind
Like we are

This is your life
This is your time

Look at your world
This is your life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dio's song This Is Your Life are a contemplative take on existence that urges the listener to live in the present moment, seizing the opportunity to create something meaningful with their time on earth. The opening verse speaks to the impermanence of life, likening us to fleeting starlight that one day will disappear completely, leaving no trace of our existence. The second verse reflects on the past, looking back to a time when the world was not yet "blind" and people could see something greater than themselves.

The chorus is a call to action, telling us that this is our life and our time to make something unforgettable. The lines "what if the flame won't last forever" suggest that we should not take our lives for granted, and that the potential for greatness may only exist for a limited time. The song acknowledges that life can be both fleeting and fragile, but encourages us to embrace the magic of the present moment and make the most of the time we have.

For a guy who lived through and succeeded through multiple changes in the music industry, Dio was a true spirit songwriter and vocalist. Great song.

VIVA CRISTO JESÚS!

what is truly spiritual comes strictly from the Holy Spirit, and Ronnie James, unfortunately and unnecessarily, blasphemed and offended the Holy Spirit in the Song "Jesus, Mary and the Holy Ghost"... a pity, but that was not very wise of him.

He put his soul into every song he made. He tried 100% on everything he did in life, and he did it all for others, not for the money. He was and always will he a legend. He literally created metal history.

As much as I enjoy his music I think pretty much everyone who worked with him would agree that money was a big part of it (E.G. Vivian). Although, I kind of get the impression that the money was Wendy's idea; I heard that naming the band Dio was her idea, so it's possible that Ronnie just wanted to put his personal life in front of his professional relationships and didnt want to say no to Wendy.

I cried like I JUST lost someone close to me. He touched so many souls. He lived a great full life. He stayed true to himself, he cared for everyone around him. And through it all Wendy was always by his side and still is. RJD was a beautiful soul and he will always be special. I just wish I could haveet him or seen him live , but I was 14 when I discovered him and he already died 💔
