JEALOUSY
Dionne Warwick Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Turn my head around, destroy the love that I've found
You are the cause of all my pain
Yes, you're to blame, now he's gone
Because of plain old jealousy
You are the cause of a many a misery
Plain old jealousy that made me lose
Jealousy, release your spell from me
Let me live again, enjoy my life till the end
You made me doubt what I believe
Now look straight at me, I'm all alone
Because of plain old jealousy
You are the cause of a many a misery
Plain old jealousy that made me doubt
Everything that was good for me, that jealousy
You are the cause of all my pain
Yes, you're to blame, now he's gone
Because of plain old jealousy
You are the cause of a many a misery
Plain old jealousy that made me lose
Everything that was good for me, that jealousy
In Dionne Warwick's song "Jealousy," the singer is reflecting on the destructive power of jealousy in a relationship. The lyrics suggest that jealousy has turned her world upside down, causing her to doubt everything she believed in and ultimately resulting in the loss of the love she had found. The song's refrain emphasizes the theme of blame, with the singer holding jealousy responsible for causing her pain.
The first verse highlights the immediate impact jealousy has had on the singer's life, as it has destroyed the love she had found. As the song progresses, the singer becomes more introspective, contemplating how jealousy has made her doubt everything she believed and ultimately caused her to lose the person she loved. While the lyrics do not provide any details about the specific circumstances that led to the singer's jealousy, they suggest that it was unfounded and driven by her own insecurities.
Overall, "Jealousy" is a poignant reflection on the destructive power of jealousy in romantic relationships. The lyrics suggest that the singer has lost someone she loved due to her own jealousy, and that this experience has caused her both pain and regret.
