We Can Work It Out

Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on?
While you see it your way,
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Think of what you're saying.
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright.
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it's a crime,
So I will ask you once again.
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long.
We can work it out,
We can work it out.
Dionne Warwick’s We Can Work It Out is a song about a couple on the verge of breaking up due to their differences in opinion. The song is a plea to the partner to try to see things from the other’s perspective and to work out their issues before it is too late. The first verse is directed towards the partner, urging them to listen and understand the other’s point of view. The chorus then suggests that both partners need to come together and work out their differences in order to save their relationship.
The second verse puts emphasis on the importance of communication and trying to understand what each other is saying, rather than assuming that everything is alright despite being mistaken. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the importance of the titular phrase “We can work it out,” as the singer tries to convince their partner to work things out with them.
The final verse reminds us that life is too short to waste time arguing and fighting; the singer views that as a crime. The song ends with the repetition of the chorus, emphasizing that the solution to their problems lies in their willingness to work things out together.
Overall, We Can Work It Out is a song about the necessity of compromise and communication in relationships, urging couples to work out their issues before it is too late.
