You give your soul so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow
Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic in your sighs
Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun
I'd like to know if your love
Is a love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
The lyrics to Dionne Warwick’s song “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” address the fear of unrequited love and the uncertainty of romantic relationships. The singer is experiencing a moment of bliss with their partner, but they fear that this moment may not last, and they won't be loved in the future (“But will you love me tomorrow?”). The fleeting nature of the moment is emphasized with the lines “Tonight with words unspoken/ You say that I'm the only one/ But will my heart be broken/ When the night meets the morning sun.”
Throughout the song, the singer is expressing their concerns about the future of their relationship, asking whether this is something lasting or just a momentary pleasure. They are asking their partner to be honest with them about their feelings so that they can set their mind at ease (“So tell me now and I won't ask again/ Will you still love me tomorrow?”).
In essence, the lyrics explore a fundamental human fear – the fear of rejection and uncertainty in romantic relationships. It is a poignant, contemplative song that speaks to the core of what it means to be in love.
