Hit Me
Dirty Loops Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hit me, hit me
First I came off alright just like a normal guy
But my tone changed round midnight
Left you message, one hundred
Wish that they all could be deleted, your number
Is hanging on a thread I'm sick and tired
But deep inside I know I'm screwed if you don't call me
Hit me
Baby I'm goin crazy
Hit me
You kill me with your absence
Hit me
Baby I'm goin crazy
Hit me
Call me up or this will be the end

Last time I saw your face
You told me something like
How I can't be replaced
I left you message, one thousand
I guess I must have broke the server, something
Cause all I'm getting is the silence, ringing
Quite honestly I'm screwed if you don't call me

Hit me
Baby I'm goin crazy
Hit me
You kept me with your absence
Hit me
Baby I'm goin crazy
Hit me
Call me up or this will be the end

Left you message, one thousand
Wish that they all could be deleted, your number
Is hanging on a thread, I'm sick, tired
I'm screwed if you don't call me
Hit me
Baby I'm goin crazy
Hit me
You kill me with your absence
Hit me
Baby I'm goin crazy
Hit me
Call me up or this will be the end, or this will really be the end

Hit me

Overall Meaning

Dirty Loops's song "Hit Me" is an emotional appeal to a lover to call the singer after a prolonged period of absence. The song follows the narrative of a "normal guy" who, as soon as it hits midnight, becomes more and more desperate to hear from his lover. The lyrics portray the singer's raw emotions, frustration, and vulnerability as they try to contact their lover. The simile "Is hanging on a thread I'm sick and tired" reveals that the singer is aware that their efforts are almost futile as the possibility of not hearing back from their lover increases.

The chorus "Hit me, baby, I'm going crazy" is a distress cry. The singer is cognizant that they are at the brink of losing their partner if they don't hear back. The use of the phrase "You kill me with your absence" reveals the weight that the singer lays on their lover's lack of communication. The song's climax is in the second verse, where the singer states that they left "one thousand messages," a clear sign that they have gone past their tipping point. The song ends with the ultimatum: "Call me up or this will be the end, or this will really be the end."

Overall, "Hit Me" is an excellent expression of the frustration and confusion that come with the communication breakdown in a relationship. The song's catchy chorus and fast-paced rhythm capture the urgency and desperation of the singer's plight.

Jonah’s voice is so good that it sounds auto-tuned (I'm 98% sure it's not), also you guys are ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! If my jaw could physically drop to the floor for those solos, it would

@GreNadeMusicNL

It's definitely pitch corrected, but not by much. Pretty much standard in the industry. Although I prefer vocals without correction, even if that means some notes are not quite perfectly on pitch. Amazing singer though.

@MasterDav

doesn't really sound auto-tuned, but it's definitely pitch corrected, specially the vocal runs. But really, if you mess a vocal run up there's no way pitch correction gonna fix that without it sounding literally auto-tuned, like the Cher song effect, so it shows he actually did those runs pretty well and the pitch correction just added a bit of accuracy
