Boiling
Disclosure Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somethin' is boilin', boilin' in me
Someone is toyin', toyin' wi' me
It won't get out, it won't stop
It don't move out, it won't leave
It won't get out, it won't stop
It don't move out

I need it now
I need it now
I need it now
I need it now

Someone's ignorin', ignorin' defeat
But the taste of your poison, your poison is sweet, so sweet
He won't give up, and I won't up and go
I don't know how
He won't give up, and I won't up and go
He's had enough, I won't leave
He won't give up, but I won't up and go
I don't know how
He won't give up, but I won't up and go
He's had enough

I need it now
I need it now
I need it now
I need it now

Took my heart and kept it
Now my wounds are setting
There's no choice I could do
I've become so reckless
All my love's affected
With the remnants of you, you

I need it now
I need it now

I need it now
I need it now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Disclosure’s song “Boiling” seem to be referring to a toxic relationship that the singer is finding difficult to leave. The opening lines, “Something is boilin’, boilin’ in me/Someone is toyin’, toyin’ wi’ me,” suggest that the singer is feeling a strong, overwhelming emotion – anger, frustration, or passion, perhaps – and that this emotion is being caused by someone else. The repetition of “It won’t get out, it won’t stop/It don’t move out, it won’t leave” reflects the singer’s feeling of being trapped in this intense emotion, unable to escape it.

The second verse seems to indicate that the person causing this emotion is someone the singer is in a relationship with, and that the relationship is not a healthy one. “Someone’s ignorin’, ignorin’ defeat/But the taste of your poison, your poison is sweet, so sweet” implies that the singer’s partner is manipulating them in some way, and that while the singer knows this, they are still unable to leave. The repetition of “He won’t give up, and I won’t up and go” suggests that there is a power dynamic at play, with the singer feeling unable to leave for some reason.

The final verse seems to be a reflection on the aftermath of the relationship. “Took my heart and kept it/Now my wounds are setting” speaks to the pain that the singer has experienced as a result of the relationship. The repetition of “I need it now” throughout the song takes on a desperate tone in this verse, suggesting that the singer is trying to fill a void or escape the pain they are feeling, possibly through seeking out another unhealthy relationship.

Can't believe we're approaching 10 years that this track dropped. It's easy to hate on Disclosure now, but this was literally music evolution in real time when it dropped (many of their tracks back then, most notably the "Running" remix for me). The way they combined house sounds with the right amount of pop melodies, the production, absolutely mental. This track here was always a go to for the after hour house parties. Really aged well. Good memories. 2012/2013 was a special time.

Why would anyone hate on Disclosure?

nothing else comes close to this track, reminds me of a late night drive through the city, seeing your reflection on the glass of the large buildings as you cut through the streets.
