After several appearances and performances on The Merv Griffin Show beginning in 1966, Monti's wild antics, (which included throwing bananas into the audience), and outrageous personality brought him to the national stage when he began appearing regularly as a guest on the Tonight Show.

Monti is generally considered to be the first disco artist to cross into the mainstream. In February 1975, Monti released Disco Tex and His Sex-O-Lettes, an LP of disco songs and collaboration with producer Bob Crewe and featuring musician Jerry Corbetta of Sugarloaf. Two of the album's tracks, "Get Dancin'" and "I Wanna Dance Wit' Choo (Doo Dat Dance)", became instant staples at burgeoning New York dance clubs including Studio 54. By the end of the 70s, disco music was fully mainstream, and Monti appeared in the movie Saturday Night Fever as the DJ.

He currently resides and performs in Las Vegas.

This song entered the Billboard® Hot 100™ on 04/19/75 at number 86, then climbed as follows: 76, 58, 47, 39, 34, 28, 24, 23...then two weeks at number 45 before falling off the chart on 07/05/75..so remember: Disco Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes were NOT a one hit wonder...they basically helped to create what went on to be called "Disco".

Perfectly absurd, but musically astute follow-up to the outrageous "Get Dancin' ". Not to overly brag on my generation, but I'd put the diversity and mix of styles of any Billboard Hot 100 chart from 1975 up against any subsequent BH 100 chart. What a year for hot pop music !

I remember my dad had an 8 Track with this on it, took me years to try to figure out what the hell the name of this song was. I always liked it, it's "unique" :D

At the time the song was at #28 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eight days later on June 8th, 1975 it would peak at #23 {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for 11 weeks...

Senior "Tacky Day" contest in the cafeteria at John Adams High School one morning in June 1975. Our DJ and Radio Club president Ronald Lucky put this on while we were clowning around in the school cafeteria. A few days later we graduated and the road to adulthood commenced. When I hear this song I always think of that fun filled morning and the tacky outfits.

As I was driving around today, I heard this song on the Studio 54 station. I sort of remembered parts of it but did not know it was Disco Tex until I looked at the radio. So now I looked for it on YouTube and am listening to it again because I was a little girl when it was a hit. Brings me back to my girlhood and went to day camp during the summer.

Another "song" by Bob Crewe? There should have been a copyright category in 1975 perhaps termed Sonic Compilation where snippets of stuff could be credited to a producer/compiler. The snippets are all corny 20s music vaudeville vocalisms. But perhaps in the future disco will be seen as Vaudeville V2.0. Nothing wrong with that if you liked Vaudeville V1.0
