The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

The one who said that she'd rather roam
The one who said she'd rather be alone
If you could only see me now
If I could hold you now
Just for a moment If I could really make you mine
Just for a while, turn back the hands of time
I've been too long in the wind
Too long in the rain
Taking any comfort that I can
Looking back I'm longing for the freedom of my chains
And lying in your loving arms again
If you could hear me now
Singing somewhere through the lonely nights
Dreaming of the arms that held me tight
If you could only hear me now
I've been too long in the wind
Too long in the rain
Taking any comfort that I can
Looking back I'm longing for the freedom of my chains
And lying in your loving arms again
I've been too long in the wind
Too long in the rain
Taking any comfort that I can
Looking back I'm longing for the freedom of my chains
And lying in your loving arms again
I could almost feel your loving arms again
The Dixie Chicks' song "Loving Arms" speaks to a person who has lived a life of independence but now wishes to be back in the arms of their lover. The song starts with the singer reminding the listener of their past self, someone who was seemingly strong and independent but knew there was something missing in life. The singer expresses a desire to hold their lover again, to reverse the clock and relive those moments of being together, and finally be free from the loneliness and longing they've felt. The yearning continues in the second verse, as the singer sings of their old love's embrace that they dream of at night. They later confess their struggle with being alone, taking comfort in any form that they can.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of wanting to be freed from their chains and into the arms of their lover. The song is an anthem for those who have experienced the sorry of regret, rediscovered love and longed for being with their loved ones again.
