The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

But you keep on telling me all those lies
How do you expect me to believe
Honey I ain't that naive
Baby I got my eye on you
But you do all the things that I want you to
I ain't that wet behind the ears
You can throw me left
And you can throw me right
The way we do this night
Beating around the bush
Wish I knew what's on your mind
Why you're being so unkind?
Remember those nights you spent alone
Talking on the telephone?
Thoughts of you go through my brain
You told me that you felt the same
You told me that you love me too (?)
Tell me who would lie with you?
I was talking birds (I was talking about birds)
And you was talking bees (And you was talking about bees)
And (he was down)(?) upon his knees
Beating around the bush
You're the meanest woman I've ever known
Sticks and stones won't break my bones
I know what you're looking for
You ate your cake, you want some more
I'm gonna give you just a one more chance
Try to save our romance
Done everything I'm gonna do (That's all I'm gonna do)
The rest is up to you
You can chew it up
And you can spit it out
Let it all hang out
Beating around the bush
Oh.
Chew it up
Spit it out
Let it all hang out
Beating around the bush
The Dixie Chicks' song Beatin' Around the Bush talks about a woman's frustration with her partner's dishonesty and mixed signals. The woman has had enough of her lover's lies, but at the same time, she cannot resist his charm and the things he does to make her happy. She has her suspicions about him, yet she cannot openly confront him without evidence. The man, on the other hand, appears to be playing hard to get, giving the woman just enough attention to keep her interested but never entirely committing to the relationship.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the lack of clear communication between the two, with the phrase "Beatin' around the bush" highlighting the ambiguity and lack of direction in their relationship. The woman wishes they could communicate clearly and honestly, but she feels that her partner keeps avoiding the tough conversations that could define their relationship. In the end, the song ends with the woman giving her partner another chance to make things right and save their love.
