The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American MasonβDixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

Hey Dixie
I can hear you calling
Hey Dixie
I can hear you calling me
Hey Dixie
I can hear you
I can hear you calling
I can hear you calling me
L.A. New York bound
Sure does bring me down
Seems like something's talking to me
Saying you've been here too long
Singing that same ol song
Got to get it on
Down in Dixie
CHORUS
Music in the streets
Flowers smelling sweet
Something I can get so close to
Yeah, the sunshine is shining bright
(Something something) in the night
Singing songs
Down in Dixie
CHORUS
INSTRUMENTAL
Good times waiting there
Honeysuckles in the air
Love is free down by the river
That Texas moon filled sky
Ya know it's gonna make me high
Got to get it on
Down in Dixie
CHORUS
The Dixie Chicks' song "Hey Dixie" is a country rock track that seems to be an ode to the group's southern roots. The lyrics of the chorus say "Hey, Dixie, I can hear you calling me," which seems to suggest that there is something about the southern US that is attracting their attention. The rest of the song is a celebration of the music, nature, and culture that can be found in the south.
The first verse talks about the discomfort that the singer feels in big cities like L.A. and New York. They seem to feel out of place there and are longing for the familiarity of the south. The second verse describes the sensory experiences that await them in Dixie - music in the streets, flowers smelling sweet, and the warmth of the sun. The bridge talks about the joy and freedom of love that can be found by the river in Dixie.
Overall, the song seems to be a homage to the south and its culture, which makes sense given that the Dixie Chicks are a country music group who hail from Texas. It's a feel-good track that celebrates the simple pleasures in life and the beauty of nature.

When I was a little boy growing up in Gillette Wyoming, this song came on the radio in our garage late one night when me and my mom were painting, i grabbed my mom and slow danced with her to this song and it brought her to tears. One of my best childhood memories β₯ Sadly she is no longer with us, she passed unexpectedly in 2021 and this was the song I played for her.
