The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

Hole in my head
I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
Let's just say we will and then don't instead
Wild goose chase, wild goose chase
You're gonna take me boy on a wild goose chase
You better find somebody to take my place
You took my imagination and stomped it into the ground
Now I can only think about you chasin' the tracks that you left around
Hole in my head
Hole in my head
Oh I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
I need a boy like you like I need a hole in my head
You make me feel so bad that I wish I was dead
Let the games begin yea here I go again I'm never gonna win
It must have knocked me crazy it must have hit me hard
People must have think I'm lazy like my shuffle's short of a playin' card
Wild goose chase, wild goose chase
Oh I need a boy like you, like a wild goose chase
I need a boy like you, like a wild goose chase
you better find somebody to take my place
Let the games begin, yeah here I go again
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
I need a boy like you like a hole in my head
Hole in my head hole in my head
Hole in my head, hole in my head
Like a hole in my head
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
I need a boy like you (I need a boy like you)
The lyrics of "Hole In My Head" by Dixie Chicks speak of a woman's struggles in love. She admits that she needs a man, but not any man. She doesn't need a boy like him, as she already has a "hole in her head" and doesn't want to make it worse. She compares her need for him to a "wild goose chase," saying that he's taking her on a trip with no clear destination, but with the guaranteed outcome of her needing a replacement for him.
The chorus repeats twice, emphasizing her desperation for the man's affection. She feels miserable and worthless because of his actions, and he has crushed her imagination that now revolves around his every move. The second verse continues with the "wild goose chase" metaphor and says that it must have taken a toll on her mind and left her feeling "lazy." She can't think of anything else besides him, and she feels like she's losing the game of love.
Overall, the song deals with themes of obsession, heartbreak, and the struggle to love someone who doesn't love you back. The lyrics are relatable to many people who have experienced similar situations in their lives.
