The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.
Storm Out on the Sea
Dixie Chicks Lyrics

The lyrics of Dixie Chicks’ song “Storm Out on the Sea” are beautiful and reflect the desire for freedom and love but also the fear of getting drowned in them. The first verse reflects the desire for freedom that the singer had from a young age when she watched the sailing ships. The ships symbolized freedom for her as the sails were like wings that rode the wind. She longs to be free but is held back by her fear of drowning in love as depicted in the chorus, “And lovin’ you’s like drowning in a storm out on the sea.”
The second verse reflects the fear that she has about being vulnerable in her love life. She has given her heart to her lover but is afraid that she will be left stranded as he never said he’d stay with her. She does not want to tie him down and lose him in the process, but at the same time, she is afraid of the loneliness that comes with it. The rain and the clouds that came low and lonely in the third verse reflect the sadness and the detachment that the singer is feeling. The final line where the lover turns his back on her shows that she has now realized that loving someone is also about being vulnerable and taking risks which she was not ready to take.
Overall, the song is about the singer's struggle with the fear of vulnerability in her romantic relationships, while at the same time, yearning for freedom and a deep connection with her partner.

As a girl I watched the sailing ships
When I was young, I used to admire the ships sailing on the sea
Like white birds on the sea
They looked like white birds spreading their wings on the sea
Their sails were wings that rode the wind
The sails acted like wings and helped the ships to move smoothly over the wind
My heart longed to be free
My heart always desired to be free like the ships sailing on the sea
I saw you standing by the sea
Once, I saw you standing by the sea
But your hand was warm against my face
You touched my face with your warm hand
The beach was dark as death
The beach looked dark and lifeless like death
Your kiss was my life's breath
Your kiss was as essential to me as breathing is for life
And lovin' you's like drowning in a storm out on the sea
Being in love with you feels like drowning in a stormy sea
Put your arms around me darling
Please embrace me, my dear
Now and rescue me
Rescue me from this agony I feel
And lovin' you's like drowning and I feel so all alone
Being in love with you makes me feel alone and helpless like drowning in water
Put your arms around me
Embrace me tightly
You never said you'd stay with me
You never promised to stay with me forever
And I'll never sail alone
However, I'll never sail alone, and I'll keep going forward
I never tied your hands
I never held you back from what you wanted
Where they can walk dry-footed
I allowed you to walk on dry land, where there was no harm
The way some frightened women do to keep their love on land
Unlike some frightened women who try to keep their love on land to prevent any damage
In their lover's arms they hide
They hide in their lover's arms for warmth and security
And never fear the tide
They never fear the rough tides of the water
Or the moon upon the water
They never fear the reflection of the moon on the water
Loke lost sailors seeking land
They keep searching for their happy ending like a lost sailor seeking land
And the clouds came low and lonely
The clouds hung low and lonely in the sky
The rain upon my body beat me down upon the sand
The rain showered down heavily on my body, and the sand was beneath me
Soon I learned that lovin' you means drowning in the sea
Gradually, I realized that loving you is like drowning in a sea
And you turned your back on me
In the end, you left me alone and turned your back on me

Vintage Chicks. Love them
@frankiegth5409
I love Robin Macy at vocals... Songs like West Texas wind, their rendition of past the point of rescue, just a bit like me... Those songs have better value and have aged better than some the commercial chicks' hits... And unfortunately you can't even find them in Spotify and Natalie Maines and the Dixie chicks haven't carried them with them. So sad

Love the old chicks before Natalie. Don't get me wrong, with Natalie too, but this old country is ageless and priceless. I adore it
