The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.

The Dixie Chicks’ song “Two of a Kind” speaks about the loneliness that comes with being a musician and always being on the road. The singer is traveling alone, without any friends, and is facing the challenges of being separated from loved ones. However, through the magic of a simple country song, the singer finds solace in the connection he feels to the voice on the radio. The song reminds the singer of his childhood memories, and despite being in a cheap motel, he feels better when he hears the guitar whine of the good ol’ boy on the radio.
The lyrics skillfully use descriptions of the night, the moon, the highway, and Dallas in the distance to create a poetic and emotive effect. The mention of the “good ol’ boy” is an interesting choice because it is a common trope in country music. It can represent nostalgia, Americana, and a certain way of life that is associated with the southern United States. The song captures the essence of the human condition of longing for something that we cannot have. It is about searching for comfort and reassurance that we are not alone in our struggles.
