Dizzee began MCing on pirate radio and at raves at fifteen, but since his mainstream success he has distanced himself from the fledgling scene. Rascal grew up in the East End of London in south Bow in a council estate, raised by his single mother, a Ghanaian immigrant. Little is known about his father, though it is thought that he died when Mills was two. He attributes his musical development to a school teacher who allowed him to skip regular classes and spend time working on music on the school computers.
His music is an eclectic mixture of garage and hip-hop beats with an extremely broad palette of influences, ranging from metal guitars to found sounds, drill and bass synth lines, eclectic samples and even Japanese court music. His vocal performance is also distinctive, he uses a fast version of rapping (known as 'spitting') which blends elements from garage MCing, conventional rap, grime and ragga.
Dizzee Rascal has numerous rivals within the Grime scene, mainly from the Bow, East London area. A notable rival of Dizzee Rascal is Crazy Titch who produced and recorded a diss called "Just An Arsehole" which used the backing track of Dizzee's record of "Jus A Rascal".
Dizzee Rascal has had international endorsements deals with urban brand Ecko and designed his own shoe with Nike. He has also worked with cross genre artist, Beck, on a remix of the song Hell Yes.
He released his debut album in 2003, which was called Boy In Da Corner, winning him the 2003 Mercury Prize. His second album Showtime was released in 2004. His third effort, Maths and English was released in 2007. All three albums received critical acclaim. He experienced commercial success in 2008 when Dance Wiv Me reached the number one spot in the UK charts. His fourth album, Tongue n' Cheek was released in 2009, going platinum for sales exceeding 300,000 units in the UK. Dizzee Rascal's album The Fifth was released in 2013, the same year he received an honorary Doctorate of the Arts from the University of East London.
In 2017, Rascal released Raskit, which as well as building on his sound heralded a return on some songs to the grime sound of his earlier albums.

Dizzee Rascal Lyrics

Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Dirty, dirty stinkin' big
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Base, base, base
I don't need no heroin, no thanks
I don't want no coke
You can keep your Ketamine
I'm a bassline junkie, what?
I'm a bassline junkie, tell them again
I'm a bassline junkie, tell them again
I don't like it funky
I'm a fiend for a big day bassline
When I hear one I have a great time
A bit of bass' all what I require
I let the bassline take me higher
My friends think that it's a bad habit
But I'm just like fuck you, damn it
If you take my base away
I'll blow your fucking face away
You might think I'm over the top
But when I hear that bassline drop
I just can't control my actions
But I still feel satisfaction
So don't come around here whinging
I just wanna hear the bassline rinsin'
Or we can just skank out all day
If not get the fuck out my way
I don't need no speed, no
I don't need no heroin, no thanks
I don't want no coke
You can keep your Ketamine
I'm a bassline junkie, what?
I'm a bassline junkie, tell them again
I'm a bassline junkie, tell them again
I don't like it funky
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Dirty, dirty stinkin' big
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Base, base, base
You ever doubt, go the other day I got an asbo order
And I think it's well out of order
All my neighbours throwing the fifth
So I told them suck my dick
And I told them I got the power
And I turn the music up louder
All night till 6 in the morning
Old bastards, they just boring
You know me, I'm the bassline father
Nobody can tell me no other
And the police turned up and they took me
We drove out to the nick and they booked me
When they said they'd give me a caution
If I didn't give them no distortion
But I said don't bother, I'm guilty
I'm a bassline fucking filthy
I don't need no speed, no
I don't need no heroin, no thanks
I don't want no coke
You can keep your Ketamine
I'm a bassline junkie, what?
I'm a bassline junkie, tell them again
I'm a bassline junkie, tell them again
I don't like it funky
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Dirty, dirty stinkin' big
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Big dirty stinking base, dirty stinking base
Base, base, base
Base, base, base
Base, base, base.
The song "Bassline Junkie" by Dizzee Rascal is a celebration of the power of electronic dance music (EDM) and its ability to move people. The lyrics are an unapologetic statement of the singer's love for bass-heavy music, which they describe as "big dirty stinking base." The repetition of "dirty stinking base" throughout the song creates a sense of urgency and excitement that mirrors the rush of the music itself.
The singer declares that they don't need drugs like speed, heroin, or cocaine to experience a high because they are a "bassline junkie." They crave the intense physical sensation of the bassline and the way it takes them to a higher level of consciousness. The singer says that when they hear a bassline, they can't control their actions but they still feel satisfied. They reject the idea that their love for EDM is a bad habit and tell anyone who tries to take it away from them that they'll "blow your fucking face away."
In the bridge, the singer describes how they got an ASBO order (an anti-social behavior order) for playing their music too loud, but they refuse to be silenced. They see themselves as the "bassline father" and are willing to face the consequences of their actions to continue living life to the fullest.
Overall, "Bassline Junkie" is a celebration of the transformative power of music and its ability to bring people together. The singer's love for bass-heavy music is a declaration of their identity and a symbol of their refusal to conform to society's expectations.
