Up until now Amable can be found at Razz Club, The Room Number 1 at Razzmatazz (Barcelona). He has played as resident at Razzmatazz since the opening, in December of 2000. Imagine if with remote ID had the option to 'save this flyer'. Additionally, to get notifications every time that drone pilot goes online and their location.
That would be a living hell. Why on Earth do they need the physical location of the pilot??!?!?!?
It should be just the drone's altitude and gps location. Stuff that the drone logs itself. Maybe we could put our registration # into our RC, linked to our DJI account.
DJI should be able to give th info to the CAA if the Police require it. TBH, I think the CAA should be able to see our UAVs in their 'radar' realtime. It's fair enough for them to know the serial number of it. It makes sense if the police need help from a drone pilot...eg a kidnap happening and potentially a drone pilot might have the suspect on film.
Or maybe there's an issue and the Police might need help from nearby drone pilots.

I was walking buy firemen with my mini 3 in my bag. They were looking at the roof of a house. I almost felt like asking "guys, do you need to see the roof?? 😁".

My worry is that Police will go round waiting for us to land and then ask to see a reg sticker on our drone - fine.
Or they watch our flight, checking our altitude - fine. Or they look for us going out of VLOS or something - fine.

The concern I have with this amateur tracking comes when Jed Clampett sees a drone flying near his property, decides he isn’t having any of that, fires up his mobile app, finds where the pilot is, and sets out intent on confrontation…

Hey Andy! Yes, that is a concern. It also means drone operators would be more on edge already and make any resulting confrontation worse, in my opinion.

Very interesting, I can definitely see the frustration of model pilots being lumped in with drones, I used to fly helis, which might be bigger and more dangerous, but there’s a practical limit to how far away you can fly them unlike a drone. We all know people push the VLOS boundaries. I asked the question on a group the other day, how far can you see your Mini3 on a clear cloudless day, one of the answers was 3.4km!

Hey Simon Elliott! Thanks for taking the time to join the conversation! Yes, it has always frustrated me to see scale helis etc in the same boat as camera drones but equally I don't have a better system to suggest either.

It astounds me how there are parts of the hobby who fascinate on how far a drone can fly. It is simply irresponsible and a real threat to the freedoms we still have as a hobby.

Of course for drone pilots, the majority of whom are using their mobile phone to fly the drone. It’s not going to be easy to view both apps at the same time those of us using the RC cannot add third-party apps to it. The only controller that will probably be able to do both would be the RC pro, so there are limitations as regards pilots access in the information

A problem. Getting a Bluetooth detection of your phone would capture the MAC address of your phone. That MAC address is unique and associated with that specific phone and thus the IMEI.
Now they can find out EXACTLY who you are. I recall having this idea some time ago...the Police stations should have open Bluetooth tether enabled in their Police car. Also, in the reception area/waiting rooms. Thus, anybody going in there's MAC address be captured. They'd just need to install similar Bluetooth hotpots strategically to track these people in future or retrospectively. We don't really need BT on all the time.

I only fly in the UK sub 250, typically 190-220g all up. So in theory this doesn't affect me, but my guess is it will in the end, because these rules will creep down below 250g. Reason being that more and more people will go sub 250, and performance of such quads is going up.

The day I have to fit any form of module will be the day I give it all up. On principle, because I feel that what I do with such things is my business alone providing I stick to rules and commonsense.

I’ve already got a flyer ID, but haven’t registered any of my drones. I just put my ID on them. Should they all have been registered somewhere too?

Do you mean your operator ID ? Your drone should have operator ID on it not flyer ID I think . I guess they are registered to you through the apps . The DJI app seems to register even the battery and camera serial numbers

Hey Rooo's! The drone registration scheme in the UK consists of two ID numbers. One is the Operator ID which is then placed on your drones with a fee of £10 per year. This is required for any drone that is over 250g or sub 250g if it has a recordable camera.

The second is the Flyer ID. This is the knowledge test and is free. It lasts 5 years. You only need this for drones over 250g.

So for your Mavic Mini you only require the Operator ID element. Hope this helps.

An easy solution for the Karen problem would be that all RID software must show anyone using the app's home location and current location. I wonder how many Karens will agree to that?

I also thought that.Anyone opening the app to track a drone should be date and time stamped GPS location noted and their phone ID linked to the downloaded App so if the apps used to incite a hate incident the app company and id of the person is logged and data then shared with the police

@Geeksvana I found your drone Id app video very useful and thought on your older videos / livestreams the women querying why the viewer at the end of the videow is still hanging around was hilarious .However balence is key. Lets have a bloke requesting to hit the 'like button' sometimes as you do have a female following and I am sure your perfectly capable of reminding people to hit that button .

Pilot location could only be done using known data which at present would be the home location captured prior to arming a drone with gps, which is well proven to be less than useful if as a drone pilot you move locations as you're flying...i dont see gps devices in controllers as well as drones...

Also is it actually expected for a remoteid module to have gps built in or to use a gps via the flight controller? What if you have no gps on a drone? This is all going to be a real issue with self built drones...

Hey Segejs! Thanks for the comment, which country are you flying in? If UK, there are hoops you need to jump through to be able to drop things from drones, especially if commercial.

I believe it will be the police service that misuse such an app.

With a "spotter" of course the drone can land elsewhere and the "spotter" will NOT be on the app.

This sounds like big brother in spades! I'll bet you a £ to a penny nothing will be done to mask the 'pilots' location which means you'll get every nutter for miles turning up to have a go at you, or more, whenever you take off (assuming they have the app and you can bet the anti drone brigade will have it), as someone who has had the odd encounter of this sort I certainly don't want any more of them and it looks like this app will encourage the loonys.

It strikes me that this is all well and good except that, once again, the only people being regulated to death are the law-abiding. Those that cause the problems are the people that have unregistered drones and ignore the laws - the likelihood of them complying with tracker regulations is pretty much zero.

Hey siras2! I personally think this is more to do with opening up the lower airspace for monetisation and to do that they need to gain control of the aircraft, our drones etc, before they can do that.

Currently only local I/d not network... Ah but!!!.. like you can get enhanced membership of flightradar24 if you have a transponder receiver drone tracking could easily do the same... With just a few people in high flats it would be easy to get networked drone tracking for the whole of London right now

Hey Greg! I think this has more to do with opening the lower airspace for monetisation than specifically criminality etc.

Although I do see validity in the argument that in a sky full of Remote ID compliant aircraft, spotting non-compliant drones and therefore a high chance they are acting in a nefarious way is easier.

However, if you then factor in the number of people not complying because of fears over personal safety etc and the issue become muddy again.

nteresting I wonder how are the police will get on when criminal and the press community find out where they are when they are trying to be discreet will the police have theirs turn off.

And as for myself I would rather be discreet myself knowing someone could probably come and take my drone off me just because they fancy doing that he's not great when someone gets seriously hurt or killed because of this who is the relatives going to get compensation from.

Hey 1957msa! Great to see you and hope you are well. I would expect with the data protection and privacy laws that we would see the pilot location restricted to law enforcement etc only, so I hope this won't be as much of an issue here, whenever we eventually get Remote ID.

On the police drone units, I am fairly certain I read somewhere that they would be exempt for those very reasons, to protect tactical advantage etc.

@Geeksvana Thing that comes to mind here is…… How do they know it’s a legal drone? If it’s beyond vlos ….if it’s at 501m….. if the operator stood in so and so place has the landowners position to take off.
Also how will they know it’s not a stolen drone……. Flown by someone else….

Interestingly, there is an option in this particular app to save and download the data. I have a feeling that when Remote ID comes to the UK then our privacy rules might protect the pilot location data. But I could be wrong.

@Geeksvana So the UK situation might be different the EU, but I don't expect they will deviate from the existing ASTM and ASD-STAN standards. All nations are currently adopting those with pilot location included.

🤦‍♂️ Why would you show the location of pilots? They shouldn’t be interrupted when flying, even well meaning people can cause trouble. The fact you get free 1k-3k drone using a hammer and mask is discouraging too…

Can you turn your wi-fi and Bluetooth off and hide your location?

Hey Paul! In the US where this is coming into place right now, it is required that drones will broadcast the data or the drone will not activate.

The UK/EU version of the rules is much more focused towards providing the information to police and authorities. Although the issue is, if the drone is broadcasting then anyone who can read that data, with an app etc, can access it.

It will be interesting to see how this gets dealt with in the UK.
