Morning Dew
Dobson (Bonnie) Lyrics

Walk me out in the morning dew today
I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey
I can't walk you out in the morning dew, at all
Thought I heard a young girl cry 'Mama'
Thought I heard a young girl cry today
I didn't hear no young girl crying 'Mama, mama, mama'
Thought I heard a young boy cry
I thought I heard a young man cry today
I didn't hear no young boy cry
You didn't hear no young man cry
Now, there is no more morning dew
Now, there is no more morning dew
What they've been saying all these years was not true
Now, there's no more morning dew
No, no, no, no more
No, no, no, no more
No more morning dew
No more morning dew
The lyrics of "Morning Dew" by Dobson (Bonnie) are open to interpretation, but they are thought to be about the aftermath of a nuclear disaster. The song starts with a plea to "walk me out in the morning dew" but the response is that "I can't walk you out in the morning dew my honey." This can be seen as a reference to the fact that the dew is no longer safe to touch or walk in due to the genetic mutations caused by the nuclear fallout.
The next part of the song talks about hearing cries, first from a young girl, then from a young boy. The fact that the cries are not heard suggests that they may be dead or dying, victims of the disaster. The repetition of "I didn't hear no young girl crying 'Mama, mama, mama'" emphasizes the impact of the disaster on families and the loss of life.
The final verse of the song reveals that "there is no more morning dew" and that "what they've been saying all these years was not true." This can be seen as a critique of the false promises made by those in charge, perhaps about the safety of nuclear power. The repeated "no more" emphasizes the finality of the disaster and the loss of something precious.

After listening to, playing, and recording this song for well over 45 years I only today discovered this version and read that Bonnie was the original composer! Brilliant song, I still often perform it at my concerts and festivals

Saw you live at a Peel concert at the Paris Theatre in Lower Regent Street in 1970 with Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts. You too put out some great music. Thank you.

Mungo, what did you think of The Mixtures (Aust.), version of 'In the Summertime' ? , assuming you were aware of it when released in 1970, which you must have been 'cos it went No 1 nationally in Australia and must have also been a nice little royalties earner . Thanks for the music.

My name is Marty. I’m listening to Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart singing “Morning Dew.” I first heard this song when the Grateful Dead played in Louisville Kentucky in December 1967.
