Joy to the World
Doc Severinsen and His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and Heaven and nature sing

Joy to the world, the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders and wonders of His love

Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let every heart prepare Him room
And Heaven and nature sing

And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and Heaven and nature sing

came here because of an anecdote in one of his masterclasses that the label basically forced him to play the pic. They got Schilke to make him one and he learned it well enough to do the session. Doc hates piccolo trumpets. This is awesome. What an inspiration on how to slug through a shitty gig.

Am I hearing some intonation issues. Must be the other guy or orchestra. Can never be Doc. That should be the rule.

Wayne Britton

Am I hearing some intonation issues? Well I’ll blame it on the other guy and orchestra. Not Doc .

You have to work a bit to find a bigger fan of Doc's than me (for about 60 years and counting), but piccolo is not easy if you are not used to playing it, even for a master like Doc!

I can attest to the fact of your fandom by your wonderful videos you post. You are right about the piccolo. It’s a totally different animal. My teacher was an amazing picc player so it was a big part of my college experience. I’ve taken many people up to Washington music (Chuck Levins) for them to pick up a piccolo and all of them left empty handed. I think they thought it would be easy to transition but that’s not the case. Actually this video isn’t the first time I’ve heard Doc struggle with intonation. I heard him live in Richmond Virginia where I live probably early 90’s and they brought his horn onstage about 20 minutes before he started. The auditorium was frigid. He started playing and to say it was flat was an understatement. He was flabbergasted he was blowing air into the bell. Trying to warm it up. He even made a joke about how cold it was. He eventually got it warmed up and knocked everyone’s socks off as usual.
