Drinking and driving is gambling with other people‘s lives. It‘s like playing Russian roulette with people that don‘t want to play.
Just because nothing happened the first 2 times you did it, doesn‘t make it any less severe of a crime.
Here‘s how I would do it:
1. offence: license revoked for 1 year and 1 year probation
2. offence: license permanently revoked and 5 years in prison

I can guarantee you that drunk driving accidents will go down drastically!

You have to put yourself in their position. I'm not defending her, but when your own life doesn't matter and you do things that are self destructing there's a posibility that you don't realize that you're putting other peoples lives in danger. Humans have a tendancy to try to survive and when life in prison is knocking, you body goes into survival mode and you can't help but think about yourself because you first need to get yourself out of danger. I'm not a drunk driver or drunkered, but I think this might be the case. I'm also don't have any degrees on this subject lol. But it's easy to hate and want to kill the person who took innocent lives while they themselves are suffering from self loathing and addiction to excessive alcohol. Just something I wanted to point out.

I had a terrible drinking problem. This video reminds me how lucky I was to avoid hurting anybody. Suffering my consequences issues by the state is brutal. However I thank God daily the Angels helped me avoid tragedy. Just celebrated (quietly) two years sobriety March 23, 2023. Killing or injuring anyone would have crushed me. @@-that_guy-1674 actually it is because when you are drunk your body does not tense up when your hit which makes you a lot less vulnerable to damage rather then when you do tense up when your sober. Thats why in a ton of drunk driving incidents the person survives. In my home town some drunk dude crashed into some trees going 120 and literally walked out of the car after with only some scratches. And recently with the Raiders, Henry Ruggs was going 150 something and I believe hit the person her killed around 127 mph he had non life threatening injuries. Its a very weird and interesting science if you look into it, of course it is terrible and tragic when someone innocent is hurt or even killed when it happens.

Also, judges in (civilised) countries must stick to sentencing guidelines, so no judge in Australia would be able to give 50 years for this offence, if they did the person would be resentenced on appeal.
Prison sentences have just ratcheted up and up, particularly in the US but in other Anglo countries as well; UK, Australia, NZ, Canada… it’s not any safer, and in fact in the US it’s gotten much worse

The law in the US is so bewildering to me since a person can do a DUI with the outcome of death and get only 15 years while someone can commit the same offense with the same outcome and get 50 years. It seems like its a game of luck what state the crime is done in and what the personality or mood of the judge is. 50 years for her is crazy compared to someone who does the same thing and gets only 15.

U.S. sentencing laws baffle me, too, and most other U.S. citizens. Parole boards baffle and disgust me even more. I believe that the lack of logic and consistency in our sentencing laws is the reason that our violent crime rates are stratospheric and that we have such a difficult time holding criminals accountable for their crimes- our justice system is a lottery. You might get life, you might be paroled in 7 years, or you might walk free.

Look, I know at least 3 people with 10+ DUI’s. They are still functional and not a threat or burden to society. This triple homicide, although I don’t defend her actions, has no intent of the killings. 50 years is ridiculously unfair. No parent should bury their child, there is no bigger pain for a human; thats why they say there is a word to call a child without parents, "orphan", but there is no word to call a parent who lost a child.

I feel sorry for the families but this woman is no better or worse than the millions of other people who drive drunk every year. She just got unlucky. The fact that the reporter tells us nothing about the accident except where it happened makes me suspect that she wasn’t even at fault, were it not for the fact that in many states the intoxicated party is always considered at fault even if they were stopped at a red light and a sober driver plowed into them.

Both the victim’s father and the injured woman look messy enough that it’s not difficult to imagine them driving drunk a few times in their lives. If so, the fact that they didn’t kill anyone was simply good luck, in contrast to the defendant’s bad luck. They are exactly as dangerous and morally culpable as the defendant, and just as deserving of scorn and decades in prison. The sense of unearned moral superiority coming from these people is nauseating and if I were on the jury I would be tempted to nullify.

He actually did hold back. Her Family was rude & disrespectful every time we went to court towards the victim, and the victims family (who are also victims) She never showed remorse, or even that she was sorry. We were told that we needed to keep our emotions together so that her lawyer could try a mistrial. It never went to trial - she pled open to the mercy of the court. But we all did our best even still & she still tried to file a “Change Of Plea” stating that she felt the sentencing was based off emotions instead of Facts. Said now that she was sentenced she thinks she could do better if go to trial.

That is ill, like whole that country. The one, that plan to murder someone, and try it, but he fails, is 100x more guilty, than this woman. I really wish her, so she get free for good behavior after 15 years. Everyone deserves a second chance, when he is not obviously murderer. We in our country have politican, that killed this way, although not drunk, a old man on crosswalk. He is free to this day. This is just sick. According this video, he would deserve at least 10-15 years too. This is totally ill-minded. Like whole "good" America. Hope that judge will drink once per his life, get drunk, and kill someone accidently, for one mistake. And will get judged at least for 30 years. Maybe then, he will wake up. I was drunk like 20 times in my whole life, and all that during 5 years period on high school and university in student times. Every that evening could end up by some mistake. This is totally hunting, by on whom from us falls some accident. Maybe we could just directly execute ourselfs, for every mistake. It's same, as to give someone 50 years. I saw so many people drinking every week in friday... all of them are not less guilty than this woman, they are basically same innocent, or guilty, while they will be all the time on freedom, just this woman needs to be hunted and destroyed. Silly system.

warrax111 hey man, I would hope you’re not being serious, there’s no need to be angry in this conversation but I’d like to argue that she does deserve life, she got drunk and got in a car under the influence, judging from your comment I don’t think English is your first language, nor are you from America, but I think the punishment given her age is pretty acceptable, killing three innocent people while drunk driving is pretty bad, (she’s pretty old already, if she hasn’t had enough second chances by then I don’t think putting her back out into the world is a good idea), idk man if you’re not being serious just think about what I said, also last note, people kill people, if you ask a car to kill somebody, what’s it gonna do?

You cannot judge one person for smashing the car for 1 year, because noone dies, and another man, for 150 years, because there were 5 or 6 people inside other car. These persons are same "guilty". They are not murderers. You should then jail all persons who drive under alcohol for 50 years. They are same guilty as this woman. Just nothing happened this time. But they are same guilty. Punishement should have some purpouse, this has no purpouse. Eighter jail all drunk drivers, even when they are caught (maybe they would just kill someonebody next minute, if you would not stop them as cop). This is basically execution. So execute all other drunk drivers... even better, catch them before they kill someone. And execute them. They are same guilty as this woman.
My english got worse, sorry for that. Used to be better.

(Edit: I would gave her 10 years. And rather took out they driver license for 50 years. Even 10 years is life-ruining basically, but it has purpouse, she has a chance for living .I would take life even without ability to drive a car for rest of the life, rather than to be bashed for life-time) Only murderers deserve to be judged for such long, not accidental killers, that cause someone to die, but didint intended to)
