The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called the Doctor, exploring the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. The TARDIS exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired.

There have been many composers throughout the show's run. Notable composers are: Murray Gold (2005-2017), Segun Akinola (2017-2022), Dudley Simpson (various stories from 1964- 1980), and Peter Howell (1980-1985), among others.

I think the reason is because we started off with a war hardened battle scarred doctor who would've gone to great lengths to scare his enemies even to the point of genocide, while Tennant's doctor was starting to heal and had more of a childlike wonder unlike 9

At the beginning of this episode I wasn't terribly impressed with Matt Smith as the Doctor. This scene, however, convinced me to give him a chance.
And an I ever glad I did!
He eventually became my favorite Doctor.
There are shows everyone wishes they could appear in, from all the variations of Star Trek to other SF/F shows to favorite sitcoms to Doctor Who. For me, if I was going to be in a Doctor Who episode, it would have been one with Matt Smith as the Doctor.
My only tiny bit of regret about Matt's Doctor was that he didn't get to use the Doctor's human alter ego (at least, not to my recollection). But I guess that would have been too much, Matt Smith playing John Smith.

Actually, he kind of did. In The Almost People, the Doctor, who we believe to be the Ganger Doctor, but is actually the Doctor, calls himself John Smith for a little bit. It's the only time I can think of.

That episode also had the return of another great Who, Tom Baker - that was a wonderful surprise, his showing up at the end like that.

@@demon_hawkeye5269 John Hurt would have been the greatest Doctor of all time if he had replaced Peter Capaldi. Capaldi should have been the War Doctor because he wasn't a good enough actor for the "Am I a good man?" character arc. That arc required an introspective and self-aware Doctor and Capaldi's lack of self-awareness was infuriating. In his very first episode, he literally accused Clara of being unable to "see" him, without even a hint of self-reflection about the sheer hypocrisy of that statement. The Doctor had literally been unable to see Clara's echoes since his very first lifetime and now he's accusing HER of being the blind one? At the very least, he should have given a facial expression that showed he was aware of how hypocritical he sounded. That utter lack of self-awareness stays consistent with Capaldi despite his constant lip service about wanting to figure out if he's a good man or not. After consistently letting Clara down for most of the season, even outright throwing her under the bus a couple of times, he still had the audacity to whine when she failed him ONCE after her boyfriend died. And then he outright gaslighted her by accusing her of whining even though she let him vent without a single complaint.

To be fair, Peter Capaldi managed to sell his Doctor in Season 9. Even I can admit that his performances in the last 3 episodes of that season were brilliant, as was his anti-war speech in The Zygon Inversion. However, John Hurt simply strode onto the screen and embodied the Doctor in a way that looked effortless. He would have handled Season 8 and at least the first half of Season 9 better than Peter Capaldi did because he was not only a better actor but also a more introspective and self-aware one. He didn't live long enough to do Season 10 but The Husbands of River Song was a good ending and would be a beautiful way for Hurt to bow out of the role, even if we didn't see his regeneration.

John Hurt was born to play the Doctor. He just had to wait 7 decades for it to actually happen and ended up being in the wrong part of the Doctor's timeline.

The logical next question was "Am I, The doctor a threat to the Atraxi". He doesnt ask it as the Atraxi would see immediately that the Dr does everything in his power not to extinguish life. Also here he is at a disadvantage and bluffing, So asking that question would have shown his hand. Instead he inflates his hand by getting them to see all the times that he played a better hand.

Then on Earth, when they show images of the Doctor, realizing that if they proceed with their plans, someone is going to regret it. Deeply. More brown pants.

One bit that has always annoyed me about this scene (as much as I love it and believe me I do) is that in the enemy aliens invasion slideshow - they show the Ood and the Hath. Neither of these EVER came to earth and more importantly they were both PEACEFUL races. Just, c'mon, there were so many amazing villains to choose from and they put those faces in there? There's no reason the Atraxi would have their faces through monitoring!
