If You're Thinking Of Me
Dodgy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm waiting for a friend to come, to help me off the ground
Better come sooner than later, can't stop feeling down
Scattered memories drifting back from my stereo
Of how we dream this could be and how we let it go
If you're thinking of me, you've got to let me know
'Cause loneliness seems such a waste, I can't stop feeling low

I'm searching for the rights, that I've got in my mind
Sympathy and understanding then there is no better time
No one ever shows you how to learn
They'd all stand around and watch you burn

If you're thinking of me, you've got to let me know (Got to let me know)
'Cause loneliness seems such a waste, I can't stop feeling low (Can't stop feeling low)

Oh, ah, (You've got to let me know)
Oh, oh
Oh, ah
Oh, ah

I'm searching for the right reasons that I've got in my mind

Sympathy and understanding then there is no better time
No one ever taught me how to learn
They'd all stand around and watch you burn

If you're thinking of me, you've got to let me know
'Cause loneliness seems such a waste, I can't stop feeling low (Can't stop feeling low)

If you're thinking of me, you've got to let me know (Got to let me know)
'Cause loneliness seems such a waste, I can't stop feeling low (Can't stop feeling low)

Oh ah (I can't stop feeling low)
Oh ah

I'm waiting for a friend to come to help me off the ground
I'm waiting for a friend to come to help me off the ground (Got to let me know)
I'm waiting for a friend to come to help me off the ground
I'm waiting for a friend to come to help me off the ground (Can't stop feeling low)

(Got to let me know)

I'm searching for the right reasons that I've got in my mind
Sympathy and understanding then there is no better time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dodgy's "If You're Thinking of Me" explore themes of loneliness, loss, and longing for connection. The first verse sets the scene of the singer waiting for a friend to come and help them "off the ground." The second line emphasizes the urgency of the situation, as the singer can't "stop feeling down." Memories of what could have been float back to the singer, highlighting the lost potential of a relationship or situation. The chorus serves as a plea for the person the singer is addressing to reach out if they are thinking of them, suggesting that even a small connection would be better than the loneliness they are currently experiencing.

The following verse continues the theme of searching for understanding and sympathy that is lacking in the singer's life. The lines "No one ever shows you how to learn / They'd all stand around and watch you burn" is a poignant statement on the isolation of feeling lost or helpless. The final chorus repeats the plea for connection and the recognition of the "waste" that loneliness can be.

@Kyter. Saw them at Festival too in Kings Lynn 7 years back, best group I ever saw there.
They are an odd band in that most people seem to remember their songs but not the group.

They still play but I think they mostly do small venues and pubs.

Kyter.

Brilliant band. Wonder what happened to em.

Saw them at the Lomax in Liverpool about a year ago. It was like the fantastic gigs of old. About 300 people. No barriers. Really personal, I kept buying brandy for them which I could pass on stage to the guys - to thank them for the fantastic music and how their music touched me. They were of course superb. Played mostly new stuff which I hadn't heard but was brill. Then they finished with my fave In a Room. Dodgy are so not !

Kyter.

Wow. Thats mint. I dint know they were still going...bet they was pissed with all the brandy tho eh...😂😉

they were a great band...i miss all the old school indie of the '90's....good times!!

Mr. Angry Dude GRRRRR

Amazing to think they were a something or nothing band in the 90’s ...... and I don’t mean that offensively at all. Shows the difference between a golden era in music.... and well..... today’s music
