Leper Friend
Dog Fashion Disco Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pretty faces, pretty hip
Bodies hang to drain and drip
So submit and let's pretend
You're not a hollow charlatan

Velcro whores they fill the streets
Infecting everyone they meet
The hourglass is karma's curse
Each grain of sand's a universe

Laser beams and cattle prods
Sacrifices for the gods
Divinities orgasmic hymns
Will fuck you with prosthetic limbs

Ulcerations form, they know
Soon will lose fingers and toes
Swollen ends, bloody gauze
Curse us all

I've watched you suffer
For so long it seems
Somehow I look the other way

I've watched you fall apart
Like my leper friend
Somehow I look the other way

An outcast deprived of festal joy
Prostration, it seems is here to stay

My limbless friend will die alone
A torso of flesh upon the throne

My limbless friend will die alone
A torso of flesh upon

The cure for clinical depression is a lobotomy
The cure for clinical depression is a lobotomy

My limbless friend will die alone
A torso of flesh upon the throne

My limbless friend will die alone
A torso of flesh upon the throne

My limbless friend will die alone
A torso of flesh upon the throne

My limbless friend will die alone
A torso of flesh upon the throne

I've watched you fall apart
Like my leper friend
Somehow I look the other way

I've watched you suffer
For so long it seems
Somehow I look the other way

Leper, leper friend (x3)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dog Fashion Disco's song "Leper Friend" explore the themes of societal pressures, superficiality, and the consequences of neglecting those in need. The song paints a bleak picture of a world where appearances and temporary pleasures take precedence over empathy and compassion. The first verse describes individuals who sacrifice their dignity in pursuit of physical beauty and fleeting pleasures. The use of "Velcro whores" suggests that these individuals are easily manipulated and controlled by society's standards. The mention of an "hourglass" and "each grain of sand's a universe" speaks to the idea that time and life are precious and should not be wasted on superficial pursuits.

The second verse takes a darker turn, with references to "laser beams and cattle prods" and "sacrifices for the gods." These lines suggest that society's obsession with pleasure and appearance comes at a cost and may require individuals to engage in dangerous and harmful behaviors. The use of "prosthetic limbs" implies that even the most intimate acts are performative and lacking in genuine emotion.

The chorus reveals the singer's guilt and apathy towards a friend who is suffering--possibly due to societal pressures--and is consequently "falling apart" like a "leper." The use of "limbless friend" and "torso of flesh upon the throne" highlights the friend's desperation and isolation. The final repetition of "leper, leper friend" serves as a haunting reminder of the consequences of neglecting those in need.

Calebvr

Discovered them about the Same time. Saw them 3 or 4 times since. First show was at a dark, run down venue called Zakks Coffee House

@Calebvr as I live in europe I doubt I'll ever see them live, they don't seem to tour outside the US much

Calebvr

@Morgue Original Music how did you come across them being from another country? I came from a little small town and there was only 1 close live music venue around our area (Zakks Coffee House) it was a pretty run down venue but nevertheless it was a spot where bands could come to play. Just happened to get lucky one weekend and they were the only band performing. We actually had to wait around for more to show up before they started lol. Like I said it was in the middle of nowhere. After that I signed up for a street team member and would always hit up shows in larger venues when they showed up. I think the largest show was when they opened for System of a Down.. I knew they would be opening so my friends and I all loaded up and saw them open. I felt very proud of the boys! To come from the hole in the wall /middle of nowhere venue where i was first introduced to them, to seeing them in a 2-3k packed out venue was an awesome sight. Going back to that small run down venue i guess the saying is true, there is no show too small. I know for a fact that they picked up at least 7 or 10 new fans that night. Pretty much the entire group that was with me.

@Calebvr A friend of a friend gave him/us a burned CD with a bunch of music videos on it. I didn't know it at the time but all the bands would become some of my favourites: DFD, Atari Teenage Riot, Will Haven, Mindless self indulgence... Obscure stuff, especially in the early 2000s.. How that guy discovered them, I have no idea

Calebvr

@Morgue Original Music very good combination of bands your friend shared with you. What part of Europe are you from? I’m in North Carolina in the US.
