Into the Fire
Dokken Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You weave your spell, your eyes, they beckon me
Your lips they speak lies and misery
I know it's wrong but I can't turn away
The flames draw near, they're telling me to stay

(Into the fire) I'm falling
(Into the fire) I'm falling
Into the fire

Into the fire
Into the fire
I'm falling
Into the fire

Your love burns bright and yet the flames are cold
This time I fear, you won't be back no more
When will it end? Your love consumes my soul
Into the fire, I'm being tempted once more

(Into the fire) I'm falling
(Into the fire) I'm falling
Into the fire

Into the fire
Into the fire
I'm falling

Take me back where I came from
Don't wanna see your face no more
You broke my heart, now it's not the same
I'm falling again
I'm falling again
Into the fire

Into the fire
Into the fire
Into the fire
I'm falling again
Into the fire

Into the fire
I'm falling again
Into the fire
I'm falling
Into the fire

Into the fire
Into the fire

I'm falling
Into the fire

Overall Meaning

Dokken’s song “Into the Fire” is about a person who is drawn into a deceitful, tumultuous relationship that they know is wrong but can’t seem to escape. The singer is lured in by the enchanting spell of their lover, who speaks lies and misery. The flames, a metaphor for the danger and destruction of the relationship, draw close, but the singer can't resist the temptation to stay. The lyrics express the fear that this love is consuming their soul and that there may be no coming back from the fire.

The song touches on the theme of toxic relationships, how easily one can be drawn into them, and how it can be hard to let go of them. The relationship is represented as a fire, which suggests that it is dangerous, unpredictable, and has the potential to cause great harm. The singer is aware that they are being drawn towards certain destruction, yet they keep returning, hoping for a different outcome.

Overall, "Into the Fire" is a cautionary tale of the alluring nature of toxic relationships and the importance of recognizing red flags before getting too deep in them. The flames are a powerful metaphor for the danger of the attraction, the destruction it can cause, and the struggles of breaking free from it.

This song was one of the top 5 songs to me in 1984 when I was 14.
1 Heaven's on Fire / KISS
2 Jump / VAN HALEN
3 Into the Fire / DOKKEN
4 Round and Round / Ratt
5 Runaway / Bon Jovi
I couldn't afford to buy all albums released then, so inevitably I depended on the radio.
But I came across more treasure when I got richer later.
1 Fight Fire with Fire / Metallica
2 Perfect Strangers / Deep Purple
3 Ace's High / Iron Maiden
4 Balls to the Wall /Accept
5 We're Not Gonna Take It / Twister Sister
6 Wings Of Tomorrow / Europe
AND MORE
I love 1984.

I am 50 years old, it's now 2020, and I am contemplating buying a Dokken t-shirt because I still love this band to this day.

@NiCKnSC

Do it brother! 🤘🏻
I saw DOKKEN back in the day a couple times and they always kicked ass and rocked the house. I am so happy I was blessed to be born in 1968. Being a teen in the 80's was awesome and the music most excellent. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
