1984 proved their most succesful year, with a sell-out Twice Nightly tour, and their first Dutch chart-topping hit, Love Me Just A Little Bit More. A lot of merchandise was made, incl. the infamous Dolly Dots-dolls. In 1985, Anita left the band due to her pregnancy. In 1986 the Dots shot their Hollywood movie Dutch Treat, but it was not the smash hit they'd hoped for.
In 1987 the girls teamed up with producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, in hope to crack the British charts. The song "What A Night" proved to be their last original single. The band split up in 1988. In 1993 a Disco remix of "Love Me Just A Little Bit More" was released to promote the Gold album, but the girls did not participate at all themselves. In 1998 all six girls gave a full concert again to promote their double CD The Collection and a R&B remix of What A Night.
In 2004 a musical featuring their best loved songs toured the Netherlands, but did not feature any of the members of the group. In 2007, the band reunited once more to perform during a concert series also featuring other Dutch bands. They also decided to give three (already) sold-out reunion concerts in May 2007. Angela, Ria and Anita were the only members of the band to release solo records, but none were as succesful as their joint efforts as the Dolly Dots. On July 20, 2009, Ria died of cancer. She was only 52 years old.
The Dolly Dots are still listed in the Dutch Guiness Book of Records as the longest running Dutch Girl Band.

Day or night you just have to choose it
You, you just have to turn it on
In the groove with my favorite DJ
We can dance to the hits that he plays
You, you just have to turn him on
Everybody listens to the radio
There you go
Everybody's singing to the songs they know
Radio
Everybody listens to the radio
Where you go
You don't have to miss your favorite show
I like funk
I'm in love with disco
I like punk
Things that you are into
Oh, I could hear it alll day long
Radio
Radio
With my friend driving on the highway
Listening to songs from then and today
Wish (how we wish)
We could take you all along
In the car kissing on the back seat
Music's up I can feel my heart beat
Oh, you're they guy who turns me on
1 2 3 4!

The lyrics of the song 'Radio' by Dolly Dots is a homage to the radio as a medium that has brought joy, entertainment and togetherness in people's lives for ages. The song talks about how the radio is a constant companion that helps people to choose their favorite music day or night, anytime they want. It celebrates the power of the radio to unite people through the songs they love to sing along.
The first verse emphasizes the simplicity of the radio as a medium that just needs to be turned on for people to start enjoying their favorite shows. The second verse talks about the personal connection that people share with their favorite radio DJs and the magical moments they create by playing hit songs that make people dance. The chorus emphasizes the universality of radio as a medium that connects everyone through music and enables them to sing their hearts out to the songs they know.
The bridge of the song gives a glimpse into the personal experience of the singers as they reminisce about driving in a car, listening to songs with their friends and feeling their hearts beat with the music. The '1,2,3,4' at the end of the verse sets the stage for an upbeat and energetic outro that celebrates the joy of listening to the radio and singing along to the songs.

I love discovering artists I've never heard of. They're adorable and this is insanely catchy. This reminds me a lot of ABBA, style-wise at least.
