1984 proved their most succesful year, with a sell-out Twice Nightly tour, and their first Dutch chart-topping hit, Love Me Just A Little Bit More. A lot of merchandise was made, incl. the infamous Dolly Dots-dolls. In 1985, Anita left the band due to her pregnancy. In 1986 the Dots shot their Hollywood movie Dutch Treat, but it was not the smash hit they'd hoped for.
In 1987 the girls teamed up with producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, in hope to crack the British charts. The song "What A Night" proved to be their last original single. The band split up in 1988. In 1993 a Disco remix of "Love Me Just A Little Bit More" was released to promote the Gold album, but the girls did not participate at all themselves. In 1998 all six girls gave a full concert again to promote their double CD The Collection and a R&B remix of What A Night.
In 2004 a musical featuring their best loved songs toured the Netherlands, but did not feature any of the members of the group. In 2007, the band reunited once more to perform during a concert series also featuring other Dutch bands. They also decided to give three (already) sold-out reunion concerts in May 2007. Angela, Ria and Anita were the only members of the band to release solo records, but none were as succesful as their joint efforts as the Dolly Dots. On July 20, 2009, Ria died of cancer. She was only 52 years old.
The Dolly Dots are still listed in the Dutch Guiness Book of Records as the longest running Dutch Girl Band.
Biggest hits: Love Me Just A Little Bit More, Radio, Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Hela-Di-ladi-Lo, PS, S.T.O.P., Don't Give Up, She's A Liar, Do You Wanna Wanna, Boys, Leila and All the Roses.

Maybe a centerfold in playgirl
Breathe in my ear, you know you move me
And when we kiss my toes curl
I-I-I-would follow you
A-A-nywhere, but when I turn
'Rou-ou-ound, I find you're not there
I shut my eyes and fall asleep, you're with me
We fit together like an egg and spoon
You whisper that you're never gonna leave me
But when I wake up, no-one's in the room
Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shake me up baby
T-T-T-T-T-T-T-Turn me around
Should I reach a conclusion
That love's an illusion, an illusion
Why-yhy-yhy - won't you be my guy
Why-yhy-yhy - are you a phantom man
Why-yhy-yhy - won't you be my guy
You're everything I'd ever want in one boy
I wanna tell the world you're mine all mine
Are you true love, or just a decoy
This thing could 'cause a girl to loose her mind
Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Sh-Shadow dance baby
L-L-L-L-L-Like the will o' the wisp
Are you real or a ruse, and is love an illusion
An illusion
Why-yhy-yhy - won't you be my guy
Why-yhy-yhy - are you a phantom man
Why-yhy-yhy - won't you be my guy
Are you a trick of the eye
Just a trick of the eye
Are you a trick of the eye
Just a trick of the eye
Are you only a dream
Are you not what you seem
You look too good for a dream
You kiss too good for a dream
A-A-Trick of the eye
A-A-Trick of the eye
A-A-Trick of the eye
A-A-
Are you only a dream
Are you not what you seem
You look too good for a dream
You kiss too good for a dream
A-A-Trick of the eye
A-A-Trick of the eye
A-A-Trick of the eye
A-A-
Are you only a dream
Are you not what you seem
You look too good for a dream
You kiss too good for a dream

The lyrics of Dolly Dots's "Trick of the Eye" deals with the theme of illusion and projection in love. The singer describes a man who is so desirable, charming, and handsome that he could be a movie star or a centerfold. The singer is smitten with this man, and whenever they kiss, she feels a rush of emotions that make her toes curl. The singer acknowledges that this man is a "trick of the eye": he seems like the perfect man, but whenever she turns around, he's not there. Furthermore, whenever she wakes up after dreaming about him, he's vanished from the room. The singer questions whether this man is just an illusion and whether love is just a projection of our fantasies.
