O Xote Das Meninas
Dominguinhos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

'Cause all she wants
Is go out with the boys
That's all she wants

'Cause all she wants
Is go out with the boys
That's all she wants
Early in the morning
She is all made up
Her days are
Full of daydreams
And nights are
Full of sighs
Her daddy says
My daughter
I want
To understand you
I guess we need
A doctor to
Find the reason why

'Cause all she wants
Is go out with the boys
That's all she wants

'Cause all she wants
Is go out with the boys
That's all she wants

I'm sorry, sir
But I can't help you
'Cause you're
To blind to see
Your daughter's
Come of age
There ain't no remedy
Don't try to understand
Right now

What you should do
Is set her free to live

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dominguinhos's song O Xote das Meninas tells a story of a young girl who has an insatiable desire to live her life outside of her father's control, as she constantly longs to go out with the boys. Early in the morning, she prepares herself for the day full of daydreams, and at night, she sighs for more. Her father notices her daughter's behavior and tries to understand her but, it seems to be impossible for him to fathom the reason behind her daughter's ways, he contemplates bringing in a doctor to evaluate her.

However, as the song continues, the singer states that the father cannot help his daughter, as he is too blind to see that she has grown up and is craving independence. He advises the father to set her free to live her life, as there is no remedy for his daughter's yearning for freedom. The song comes to the conclusion that the young girl's desire to go out with the boys is merely a manifestation of her desire to gain more independence in her life.
