Socks
Dominic Fike Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can't keep track of all my socks
I'm irresponsible, not because I'm a rockstar
You can call me what you want
I think I'd like to hear you talk

If I set fire to these walls right now (right now)
Would I set foot inside your mind? (Would I?)
And if you say yes, am I allowed back in?

I hate the way it falls down
But I like the way it all sounds
But since you came back, I've been on guard
Watchin' my walls
And when you moved in, I think I knew then
That everything paused
And all I want is your time

If I set fire to these walls right now (right now)

Would I set foot inside your mind? (Would I?)
And if you say yes, am I allowed back in?

Overall Meaning

In Dominic Fike's song Socks, the lyrics seem to be exploring the themes of responsibility, relationships, and vulnerability. The opening line, "I can't keep track of all my socks," serves as a metaphor for the singer's perceived lack of responsibility. Despite the fact that he is not a rockstar, he admits to being irresponsible which indicates a level of self-awareness. The next line, "You can call me what you want," is a challenge to others to label him as they please, suggesting that he is comfortable in his own skin and does not care about being judged.

The chorus delves into the vulnerable territory of relationships, where the individual is asking if they would still have a place in the other person's mind if they were to burn down the walls around them. This suggests that the singer may have some doubts about the future of their relationship, but the question also shows how much they value the connection with the other person. The final line, "And all I want is your time," is a plea for the other person to devote more time to them, implying that this may be lacking in the current state of the relationship.

Overall, the lyrics of Socks are relatable and thought-provoking, highlighting the complexities of relationships and the importance of vulnerability and self-awareness.
