Domino Tributes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

North to south
Empty
Running on
Bravado
As if to say, as if to say
As if to say, he doesn't like chocolate
He's born a liar, he'll die a liar
Some things will never be different

Stop being so American
There's a time and there's a place
So James Dean
So blue jeans
Gonna save the world
He's gonna

Are you hoping for a miracle?
Are you hoping for a miracle?
Are you hoping for a miracle?
Are you hoping for a miracle?

Three out of five, three out of five (it's not enough)
Six out of ten
Better luck next time
Just like his Dad, just like his Dad (the same mistakes)
Some things will never be different
Hungry and dumb, hungry and dumb (so wait in line)
Queuing up for some more junk food
It's not my fault, it's not my fault (just this once)
They're getting so much younger

Why can't you be more European
Bastard child of guilt and shame
Bury your head in the sand
I'm thinking six, six, six
I'm thinking six

Are you hoping for a miracle?
Are you hoping for a miracle?
Are you hoping for a miracle?
Are you hoping for a miracle?

It's not enough

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Domino Tributes' song "Helicopter" are a critique of American culture and its influence on the rest of the world. The opening lines describe a sense of emptiness and bravado, with the singer running on empty and pretending to be something they're not. The line "as if to say, he doesn't like chocolate" is a reference to the idea that American culture is often seen as artificial and superficial, particularly in its obsession with candy and other sugary treats. The following lines suggest that this artifice is ingrained in the singer's very being - they were "born a liar" and will "die a liar".

The chorus of the song asks a series of questions about whether the singer is hoping for a miracle. This could be interpreted in a number of ways - perhaps they are hoping for some kind of escape from their own emptiness and superficiality, or for some kind of change in the world around them. The repeated phrase "it's not enough" suggests that they are constantly striving for something more, but that they never quite find it.

The second verse of the song continues the critique of American culture, with references to James Dean and blue jeans as symbols of a superficial attitude to life. The singer notes that "some things will never be different", implying that these cultural attitudes are deeply ingrained and unlikely to change. The line "hungry and dumb" suggests that many people blindly follow American culture without really questioning it. The final lines of the song suggest that the singer is thinking about the number 666, which is often associated with evil or the devil - this could be a reference to their sense of disillusionment with the world around them, or a sense that American culture is leading them down a dangerous path.

I love how they did her in this film. I was skeptical at first about how you would 'show' luck powers in a movie, but they chose an aboslutely genius and hilarious way of showing it, and all of her scenes were the biggest highlights of the film

Video Guy

Why would you be skeptical of that? It isn’t hard to show a character who has good things consistently happen to them and emerge unscathed from disasters. It’s been done before. The only reason anyone would be skeptical of the visual component of that ability is because… the dialogue in this movie says you should be skeptical. Not for any actual reason

Wowza

@Video Guy what a weird reason to comment on someone's comment. They couldn't imagine how her powers could be represented. Is that so hard to comprehend? Just leave it alone. Gosh.

Video Guy

@Wowza They’re giving this movie credit for something the movie blatantly instructs them to give it credit for (it’s in the scene). And nobody, including the 4 thousand upvotes, questioned it at all. Which is kind of weird

The Doctor

@Video Guy I don't see how that correlates to the comment. the characters in the film being skeptical of the power overall doesn't translate to an audience being skeptical of how it is represented in the film. Two different things. Most people in the audience expect the "subversion", but it's not unusual to wonder if it'll be represented in an engaging way.

Video Guy

@The Doctor It’s unusual for a marvel movie. These are multimillion dollar films with tons of visual artists working on every project. I’ve never seen anyone question how a character’s powers would translate visually. There are heroes with far less visually compelling powers than domino who get entire movies to themselves.

So again I say, the only reason anyone would question the capacity for marvel to make this particular hero’s powers engaging is because the movie tells them to.

Domino was a character I didn't really expect to like that I sincerely enjoyed. The actress and writers did a great job with her.

👍

_Gungrave_

Well its a simple character that doesn't have too much depth so its easier to write a story involving her.

It means her powers worked lol
