La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
Al di la means you are far above me, very far
Al di la as distant as the lovely evening star
Where you walk flowers bloom
When you smile all the gloom turns to sunshine
When you′re gone it fades inside
And seems to have died
Al di la, I wondered, as I drifted, where you were
Al di la, the fog around me lifted, there you were
In the kiss that I gave was the love I had saved for a lifetime
Then I knew all of you was completely mine Ci sei tu Ci sei tu
In the kiss that I gave was the love I had saved for a lifetime
Then I knew all of you was completely mine
La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
The song Al-Di-La by Don Cornell, is a beautiful love song that speaks of the incredible feeling of being in love with someone who is unattainable but whose very presence brings joy and happiness. The opening line "Al di la means you are far above me, very far" is a clear indication of the distance that exists between two people who are not on equal footing, and yet the singer is still captivated by the object of his affection. He admires her from afar and sees her as a person who is out of his league, someone who is like the evening star which is so far away that it cannot be reached but is still beautiful to behold.
The singer goes on to describe how the presence of the one he loves brings light to his life, how she can make flowers bloom and end the gloom. He admits that his heart opens wide in her presence, but when she is gone, it fades inside and seems to die. The pre-chorus talks of how the singer wondered where his love was, as he drifted aimlessly, but then suddenly the fog lifts, and he sees her - right there, within reach. The chorus talks of the kiss he gives her, the culmination of his love that he had saved for a lifetime. And in that kiss, he knows that all of her is completely his.
Overall, Al-Di-La is a beautiful song that perfectly captures the feeling of being in love with someone who is seemingly out of reach. The lyrics are simple and straightforward, and the melody is touching and emotional. It's a love song that speaks to the heart and soul, and it's no wonder why it has remained so popular over the years.

During the early and mid 1950's I remember Don Cornell's recordings being played on radio all the time. I had forgotten what an extremely powerful voice he had.
