I
Don Davis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out among the stars I sail, way beyond the moon
In my silver ship I sail, a dream that ended to soon
Now I know exactly who I am and what I'm here for
And I will go sailing no more

All the things I thought I'd be, all the brave things I'd done
Vanished like a snowflake with the rising of the sun
Never more to sail my ship, where no man has gone before
And I will go sailing no more

But no, it can't be true I could fly if I wanted to

Like a bird in the sky if I believe I can fly, why I'd fly
Clearly, I will go sailing, no more

Overall Meaning

In Don Davis's song No More Nebuchadnezzar, the singer reflects on their past experiences of exploring the unknown depths of the universe through space travel in a silver ship. However, the singer's adventurous spirit has come to an end as they come to terms with their true identity and purpose. The dream of space travel has ended too soon, leaving the singer to contemplate the bravery they once possessed and the things they thought they would achieve. The imagery of a snowflake disappearing with the rising sun shows the fleeting nature of the singer's aspirations. They will no longer embark on a journey where no man has gone before, as they have now found their true north.

The singer, however, still holds onto the belief that they can fly if they wanted to. The lyrics "But no, it can't be true I could fly if I wanted to. Like a bird in the sky if I believe I can fly, why I'd fly" indicate the longing to still reach for the stars, though it may not necessarily involve physical space travel. The singer concludes that they will go sailing no more, implying that they are ready to move on from their past adventurous self and embrace their newfound identity.

Navras - a Hindu word which, broken down, means nine ("nava") emotional states ("rasa") that are exhibited during music, drama, and the visual arts, the experience of which bring about a state of transcendental bliss. The nine different states are as follows:
Love
Humor
Pathos
Wrath
Heroism
Horror
Disgust
Supernaturalism
Peace

The lyrics from the song "Navras" are taken from the Upanisads, a set of documents written in sanskrit used in the Hindu religion.
LYRICS:
asato ma sad gamaya
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
mrtyor mamrtam gamaya

(From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
From death lead me to immortality)

vidyam cavidyam ca yas
tad vedobhayam saha
avidyaya mrtyum tirtva
vidyayamrtam asnute

(He who knows both knowledge and action, with action overcomes death and witch knowledge reaches immortality.)

yasmin dyauh prthivi cantariksam otam manah saha pranais ca sarvaih tam evaikam janatha atmanam anya vacah vimuncatha amrtasya esah setuh

(In him are woven the sky and the earth and all the regions of the air, and in him rest the mind and all the powers of life. Know him as the ONE and leave aside all other words. He is the bridge of immortality.)

indriyebhyah param mano
manasah sattvam uttamam
sattvad adhi mahan atma
mahato vyaktam uttamam

(Beyond the senses is the mind, and beyond the mind is reason, its essence. Beyond reason is the Spirit in man, and beyond this is the Spirit of the Universe, the evolver of all.)

yada pancavatisthante
jnanani manasa saha
buddhis ca na vicestate
tam ahuh paramam gatim

(When the five senses and the mind are still, and reason itself rests in silence, then begins the Path supreme.)

Ya ya ya ya yada yadaya
Ya ya ya ya yada yada yada yada
Yada yada yada yada yada

bhidyate hrdayagranthis
chidyante sarvasamsayah
ksiyante casya karmani
tasmin drste paravare

(And when he is seen in his immanence and transcendence, then the ties that have bound the heart are unloosened, the doubts of the mind vanish, and the law of Karma works no more.)

Those lyrics are the main reason why people believe that Neo's 'mind' was downloaded into the Source - so that he still LIVES in a way, although his physical body is dead: 'The law of karma works no more.'

Hindu's Sanskrit Shlokas used in The Matrix Revolution movie

The name Navras might refer to the notion of nine rasas (nava rasa) in Sanskrit aesthetics.

I can't believe they just managed to create this masterpiece just for one movie and that's why the matrix will be the best trilogy movie ever. I shudder every time

@commandercaptain4664

One of the best soundtrack trilogies. Worst movie trilogy.

@izanamiizanagi4293

Now it's not a trilogy anymore since they dropped another movie 😉

@TheMydoorbell

@Commander Captain The best trilogy far away better than Star Wars or every Marvel or DC shit.
