Dixon is considered to be one of the key producers of what is called the jangle pop movement of the early 1980s. He spent thirteen years as a member of NC cult heroes Arrogance. Around 1983, Dixon attracted attention by co-producing with Mitch Easter, R.E.M.'s landmark debut LP Murmur. He then spent several years producing the work of varied artists including Chris Stamey (formerly of The dB's) and The Smithereens. Considered to be a highlight of this period was Tommy Keene's Run Now EP. This success led to Dixon recording his solo debut Most of the Girls Like to Dance But Only Some of the Boys Like To, a further affirmation of his love of classic pop melodies and spiky, Nick Lowe-inspired wordplay.
Dixon is married to the singer Marti Jones.
In 2006, Dixon released his first new album in six years, The Entire Combustible World in One Small Room.
Currently Dixon is producing the follow up album for Babyshaker. The Charlotte based hard rock glam band is recording their sophmore effort at the legendary Milestone Club, in Charlotte N.C.
Oh No
Don Dixon Lyrics

You've got your engine steaming, revving every dream you're dreaming
You've got to face the future but your time is running out, oh no
They've got a line in heaven, they roll the dice and through a seven
It's just another fear and loathing, does not affect the cards they're holding
They say that live's a gamble but eternity is a choke hold, oh no
Taste one drop and you'll never leave
Face to face 'cause I'll never let you go, oh no
Your dead has teething moments, you try to grab the love that's in it
But you've got no conviction just a massive case of??? Emendation????
You see your house on fire and you've got no place to go, oh no
Nothing ventured, the poor-mans game
Horse race's locked so it's all the same
Face to face 'cause I'll never let you go, oh no, oh no, no, no, no, no
Oh no, they've got a line in heaven, they roll the dice and through a seven
It's just another fear and loathing, does not affect the cards they're holding
They say that live's a gamble but eternity is a choke hold, oh no
Taste one drop and you'll never leave
See my hand, nothing's up my sleeve
Face to face 'cause I'll never let you go, oh no, oh no, no, no, no, no, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no
The lyrics to Don Dixon's song Oh No depict a person chasing their dreams and trying to face the future, but feeling like time is running out. They are putting all their effort into their goals, but seem to be teetering on the edge of failure. The line "Your dead has teething moments, you try to grab the love that's in it" describes how even in the midst of struggle and uncertainty, the person is still trying to grasp onto something positive or hopeful.
The song also touches on the theme of gambling and risk-taking. The line "They say that life's a gamble but eternity is a chokehold" hits at the idea that while taking risks may be exciting, ultimately time is limited and the consequences of those risks could be dire. The chorus repeats the phrase "oh no," conveying a sense of anxiety and urgency.
Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a person who is determined but also struggling, uncertain of what the future holds but pushing forward anyway.
