DREAM WORLD
Don Downing Lyrics

(Dreamworld)
You said that you were leaving me
I thought that you were teasing
now you're leaving

I thought you wanted happyness
You wanted someone new
And now you're leaving

No no don't go
I can't believe it (you found someone new darling)
No no don't go
I must be dreaming

Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld
I must be dreaming this darling
Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld
Can't you hear my heart darling

Look I feel the tears inside
growing falling in my eyes
begging and bleeding

Somebody take me
ooh don't you wake me
I must be dreaming

No no don't go
I needed one more chance (to make it up to ya)
No no don't go
I must be dreaming (huhu huhu)

Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld
I must be dreaming this darling
Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld
Can't you hear my heart darling

Ah ah ah ah... dududup (somebody shake me)
Ah ah ah ah... dududup (why don't you wake me)

No no don't go
I needed one more chance (to make it up to ya)
No no don't go
I must be dreaming (huhu huhu)

(Instrumental break)

Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld
Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld

Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld (I must be dreaming this darling)

Dreamworld
I'm left up in a dreamworld (Can't you hear my heart darling)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Don Downing's "Dream World" tell the story of a man who is devastated by the news of his lover leaving him for somebody new. He initially believes that she is just playing with him, but then comes to the realization that she has found someone else. He pleads with her not to go, confessing his love and asking for one more chance to make things right. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Dreamworld," which can be interpreted as a sense of disbelief in the situation- as if he can’t quite believe what is happening.

The second stanza finds the man overcome by emotion- he can feel the tears growing in his eyes and is metaphorically "bleeding." He pleads for someone to wake him up from what he assumes must be a dream, as he can’t accept the reality of the situation. He asks for one more chance to make it up to her, still caught up in his dream world of hope and love.

Overall, "Dream World" is a song about heartbreak, denial, and a desperate need to hold onto love. The chorus, repeating the phrase "Dreamworld," gives the impression of a man in a state of disbelief or denial, struggling to accept the reality of his situation, even as he is being left behind.
