"Grandpa... You were a hero in the war?"
"Grandpa said no... But I served in a company of heroes"
Richard D. Winters interviewed in "We stand alone together" an HBO's documentary about "Band of Brothers" Epic!
Best regards from Venezuela 🇻🇪

He lost 2 men killed and 1 wounded.
That's about half of the allied casualties during the battle, even though he came at the end of the battle.
It worked though.
In Spiers mind, he was fighting a war, and in war, people die. The sooner the war ends, the less people die. The sooner a battle is won, the less people die.
He knew he could take that gun, and he knew he could take it faster than Winters. Therefore he knew that he could win the battle faster.
He didn't do it for medals or prestige, that's just the man he was.
He had no regard for his own safety and expected the men under him to do the same, because they were soldiers fighting a war, and in his mind that's what soldiers are supposed to do, that's how wars are won.

Winters: Uses intelligent strategy that becomes a textbook example on how to take a trench and is still taught today
Speirs: LEEEEEROOOOOOYYYYYYY

Like when he needed to link up with I company... Shit works when it needs to and that's why a Spiers and Winters type Duo is a success.

@Eris True, but still not recommended.

@Brandon …those who separate people into two groups, and those who don’t.

There are two types of people...

@Azurea too right. There’s also the factor of how long the fight had been going on. By the time Spiers and his men had arrived, the guns at Brecourt were beginning to bear down on the Americans, which pressured their withdrawal. Speed was of the essence, which suited Spiers’ style.

Funny thing is that the method Winters used to clear out each trench and disable the guns is actually recorded in military doctrine as an effective way of clearing strongpoints in trench systems. It’s commonly taught to this day. Then Speirs is literally a spear and just goes right at it
Nitono No
Speirs is like a gamer, improvise on the spot, let's see what will work. rely on pure skills, reaction time, element of surprise and of course a lot of luck.
